Scientists detected a new coronavirus and it's jumping from dogs to people

In the first batch of samples tested last year, [virologists Gregory] Gray and [Leshan] Xiu found evidence of an entirely new coronavirus associated with pneumonia in hospitalized patients — mostly in kids. This virus may be the eighth coronavirus known to cause disease in people, the team reports Thursday in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases[…]

"There's no evidence yet of transmission from human to human," says virologist Xumin Zhang at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. But it's not known how these patients became infected with the virus, or if they had direct contact with infected animals.

There were hundreds of coronaviruses before Covid-19 and will be hundreds after. Your disregard of science is astounding. I weep for your children.

The family Coronaviridae has at least 47 different viruses. Some thus far have infected humans but as we see with Covid-19 animal to human transmission is certainly possible.  So you’re wrong yet again.

You're confused.

There may be 47 genders.

But what I originally posted, which sadly some missed the point, specifically said that this would be the 8th that causes disease in humans.

Help me with the math.  Is 8 less than hundreds?

Coronaviruses will be around until the multiple species that host them are eliminated from the Earth.

https://www.niaid.nih.gov/diseases-conditions/coronaviruses

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that usually cause mild to moderate upper-respiratory tract illnesses, like the common cold. However, three new coronaviruses have emerged from animal reservoirs over the past two decades to cause serious and widespread illness and death.

There are hundreds of coronaviruses, most of which circulate among such animals as pigs, camels, bats and cats. Sometimes those viruses jump to humans—called a spillover event—and can cause disease.

If you had a point you would do more than post a snippet of an article and a meme.

You would use facts within that article to articulate a position with words.

Here’s the math.  The post you responded to indicated there are hundreds of corona viruses.  He overestimates but he’s closer to reality than you saying there are 8.  There may only be 8 that have caused human diseases thus far, but no one knew about Covid-19 and its devastating effects until it became infectious to humans.

so yes you are mistaken yet again.  Not surprising of course.

How many vaccines will it likely take for all these different viruses?

Then what?

Depends how many new strains become infectious and how deadly they would be.  It is quite conceivable a pandemic involving several new viruses could wipe out most of the world’s population.  Bottom line is viruses are nasty little things.

We’re still doing okay.

Because we have pretty good immune systems.  But if the wrong one crosses over from animals to us look out.

They KNOW you're this stupid

The CDC's new mask guidelines could actually increase risk of spreading Covid at work and in public, scientists say

"There was no information on how to apply the guidance in practice, particularly related to the inability to verify vaccination status," Duchin said. The CDC also didn't provide any guidance on whether people should continue wearing masks in areas of high transmission or low vaccination rates, he said. "What the CDC did though was sub-optimal and allowed for misimpression that the mask mandates have been lifted."

Physicians across the country and federal health officials continue to emphasize that only vaccinated people are safe to remove their masks.  (THIS IS EMBARRASSING)

I thought masks were about protecting others?  Now I'm confused.

As Covid mutations spread, will herd immunity ever be possible?

The strategy of targeting herd immunity was quickly abandoned by most countries — with some notable exceptions such as Sweden — and lockdowns became the primary way of trying to prevent the spread of Covid as vaccines were rapidly developed.

Ummm......what?

The strategy was herd immunity?

When?

How?

I thought it was to flatten the curve?

Now it'll be an indefinite number of vaccines and vaccine boosters.

I think people who think that their two shot covax is the end of it.  Couldn't be more naive.  Just the beginning.  It'll be flu shots and boosters, covax shots and boosters, pneumovax boosters.
