There are definitely different approaches to managing coaching staffs in the NFL.   Jerry Jones was the poster child for continuity, hanging on to Jason Garrett for nine years, with only three playoff performances to show for it.  Wade Phillips is less than a year removed from having a defense capable of contributing to an NFC championship. and is ash canned because he is viewed as not being the guy to be able to move the defense forward again.

Wade is 72, so maybe he thinks will be easier path to be dc?

I actually thought Wade would retire at this juncture.

Deny the interview. Just that easy.

Give Butler a little pay bump to keep him happy after denying the interview.

Surrounding a young, first time head coach with older guys who have done it for a long time is the right move. If Stefanski makes it, they will move on from Wade when they don't need him anymore. Essentially, Stefanski does not have to worry about teh defensive side of teh ball.

This is exactly why McDermott hired Fraser and McVay hired Phillips. Learn from those who have done it, smart.

Meh...a bad year for Wade in 2019

Not really true. The Rams were at least decent on D - 13th in yards allowed, 9th in turnovers forced, 9th in defensive DVOA, 10th in yards per drive, and 11th in points per drive. They were 17th in points allowed partly because their offense turned the ball over a lot - the offense was 22nd in avoiding turnovers. The collective team defensive passer rating was 86.8, which is quite solid.

Better than I thought.  It seemed like they were giving up a ton of points

IIRC, I don't think they are allowed to for anything more then a lateral move. So unless the Bills want to give him a bigger title they can't just deny the interview.

Nah, they can deny anything except HC. Every other position is considered an assistant and lateral.

can deny any interview. Except HC and GM.

all assistants to include coordinators are assistants and lateral moves.

Yeah, they had a bunch of games where they gave up loads of points, but they gave up 13 or fewer points in 7 of their games.
