I like Allen............but that was a really bad take.     Can't even compare Brees being a young QB in the early 2000's to being a young QB now and Cousins was a backup.   The first year Cousins got the starting nod he had 70% completion % and over 4K yards and 29 passing TD's.

And consistently was terrible in crunch time. Just like at MSU

Yeah.  He really sucked today dropping a dime 50 yards downfield and then a perfect fade to the corner of the endzone to knock the Saints out of the playoffs in New Orleans.

Does KC even run a FB out wide on a deep pattern?  I doubt it.

Bingo!  These folks attacking Allen for that throw are clueless.  There are a lot of TE's & WR's who would have caught that ball Allen threw to DeMarco.  The real problem wasn't the throw but the fact that a FULLBACK was on the receiving end 40 yards down the field.  Daboll's schemes where he lines Gore & DeMarco up on the outside with Allen in an empty set backfield is demented.

Which shows guys improve with experience.  Which is the point when folks overly criticize our second year QB.

You mean like Josh dropped a dime to Brown who left his feet when he didn't have to and couldn't get his feet in bounds with 2 yards of space?  Maybe you mean the dime Allen threw to Duke that he dropped in the endzone.

That wasn't what we were talking about.   We were talking about cousins in his first full year as a starter

Or basically any moment in his career before about 4 hours ago. It has been a legitimate knock on Cousins. He never wins the big games. Tonight was the first time in a big spot he turned that around.

The year he completed 70% of his passes for 29 TDs and 11 INTs and a QB rating of 102?

Exactly.  But lost on playoffs and had a .500 record as a starter in washington.  He threw for yards yes. But didnt win any big games.  His first was this year.

The mistake we made was not throwing more screens, slants and hitches  to build up some rhythm along with a running game in the 2nd half just to keep the defense rested.

A lot of us are blaming the defense but you can't go 3 and out a few times in a row and not give up momentum. We needed to find enough rhythm to keep the defense rested, even if it was 7-8 play drive that ended in a punt.

Allen is not the QB to win us the game with his arm alone, but with good coaching, solid running game, and defense. He should throw the ball max 30 times a game. The drive that started the game he didn't have a real pass the entire drive. His legs are good enough as well as a great coached game. Daboll did horrible leading Allen to play uncomfortably and against his strengths.

Add:

Wilson: 18/30, 325 yds, 1 TD, 0 INT, 9/45 rush, 1 Fumble/0 lost

McCown: 18/24, 174 yds, 0 TD, 0 INT, 5/23 rush, 2 Fumble/0 lost

Looks like the order of performance (to me) is:

Wilson

Watson

Cousins

Brees or Allen

McCown

Brady

Tannehill

Let's simplify things and look at production by the 8 QB's who played in the 4 first round playoff games:

Passing Yards & TD's/TO's:

325 = Wilson;  1/0

264 = Allen;  1/1

247 = Watson;  2/0

242 = Cousins;  1/0

209 = Brady;  0/1

208 = Brees;  1/2

174 = MaGowan;  0/0

72 =  Tannehill;  1/1

Rushing Yards - ALL players

182 = Henry

94 = Cook

92 = Allen!

Team Offensive Production - total yards/ Points

Buffalo = 425 yards;  19

Seattle = 382 yards;  17

Vikings = 362 yards;  26

Texans = 360 yards;  22

Saints = 324 yards;  20

Pats = 307 yards;  13

Eagles = 282 yards;  9

TN = 272 yards;  14 (pick 6 not included).

Key take aways?  Allen played equal to or better then all the other QB's from both a personal AND team offensive production POV.  All the games were LOW SCORING & tightly contested with two going to OT.  Buffalo had the most yards and the  Vikings had the most points.  Allen led all QB's in TOTAL YARDS produced and Watson led all QB's in TOTAL TD's produced.  Brees led all QB's in  TO's

As others have pointed out playoff games are often dominated by the defenses.   Bottom line is that for his FIRST PLAYOFF game Allen acquitted himself quite well.  And note that this was Cousins FIRST playoff win in his NFL career.
