If I were McD (or Terry perhaps). I would ask a veteran coach whose opinion I respect to review my in game decisions over this past season.  Review play calls as well.  And give me unvarnished opinions on whether and where I need to be more or less aggressive.

So you analyze this game and conclude: "need more defense."

Have you had a look at the offensive side of the ball, and in particular the QB?

You might find some interesting stuff there if you have a look.

The Offense did sport the D a 16 point 3rd  lead to play with....

McDermott could have done better.  However,  this game was stolen.  There were three separate calls by the refs, any one of which likely results in a Bills win

1. The stolen "common sense" td

2. phantom blindside block

3. missed delay of game on 3 and 18.

These are not the normal "refs make mistakes".  Each of these were horrible outcome alternating calls.  No similar calls went the other way.

And the reason is he turned the defensive plays back to Leslie Frazier in the second half of the game.  Mcdermot has to fire Leslie Frazier and get a guy that fits his defensive idea.  Zone blitzing, defensive line stunts, confusing the QB just like the way they played in the first half.  All of sudden the defensive playbook stopped and went to Frazier's cover two the same defense we say in the Bengals, Eagles,Browns, the first dolphin game and the patriots game in buffalo and fox-bro.   If you look something happend to the Defense after the browns game Mcdermot took over the defensive calls in Miami and Dallas the Bills were blitzing all over the place confusing Ryan Fitzpatrick and Dak Prescott in the Ravens game you can see him with the playbook in his hands calling the defense.  Mcdermot is a young belichick he can confuse any Qb out there but he has to stop protecting Lesile Frazier and get rid of him.

Shhhh you'll upset the blind fans who will spout our defense being the whole reason we are even playoff caliber...facts are coaching has been the difference from sitting on a bye with a division crown and a home playoff game...frazier has cost us two maybe even 3 games this year incl yesterdays collapse and daboll is just clueless..daboll for sure needs fired he is our weakest link but it seems all our coaches inc McDermott lack situational play calling and game time decisions and that's why our season still isn't carrying on

It's on everyone.

On to the off-season.

Man, I really agree with this.   That was a team loss.

McDermott should have challenged the kickoff call.

Frazier and Daboll clearly could have called better games.

EVERY guy on offense and defense could have made plays they didn't.

They'll all learn from this, and they will get better.

As fans, we finally have a good football team.   Enjoy it.

Everything after 16-0 reeked of an ultra conservative philosophy that unfortunately has been Sean's trademark. It cost us yesterday's game. Yes Josh played poorly in that 2nd half but we took the foot off the petal both on offense and defense. While Jordan Palmer is working with JA on deep throws and ball security,  somebody better help Sean with tactical issues. It's just frustrating for us fans to have to wait for both our young qb and HC to develop.

As long as the Bills exist,  they will never get calls in big games. Just accept it.

Philosophical team building question: are we better off finding a coordinator that's creative with the run game (Anthony Lynn-esk), draft a stud RB, and re-vamping the O line for more zone blocking and guards who can pull rather than forcing Josh to play read the defense for 60 mins? If you run more play action you have more opportunities to get the QB making plays on the run which is Josh's biggest strength. It might mean having to trade Morse but it would seem a better fit for how McD likes to play.
