Everyone tends to rip McD  over clock management.  Sean Peyton has been coaching for close to 15 years now, think he screwed up big time.  On the 3rd down sack of Minn. there was around 2:45 left when they wound the 40 second clock down meaning Vikes would need to punt with something more than 2:05 left unless the Saints used their last time out.  I understand not wanting to take your last TO with over two minutes left, but need to think things thru.  He should have easily figured out that there's a good chance the punt which upon change of possession stops the clock automatically is going to end up including the two minute warning, so you lose a stoppage.

What happened, Vikes punted with 2:07 left, including the return clock went down to 1:55 and ow have a stoppage for change of possession and two minute warning.  If he had called his last TO with 2:45 left, take the twelve seconds away for the punt and return would have likely still left him with about 2:32.  Saints could have easily ran two completions to the middle of the field or four plays either incompletions or player going out of bounds before the two minute warning.  Two completions could have netted him 20  to 25 yards field position, would have given them a reasonable shot at throwing a pass into the end zone for a TD.

And by the way the regulation ended with the Saints still having the TO in their pocket.

What Minny and Cousins did in OT is what we should have done last night. They went for it balls out and killed the Saints right there. Instead in our most important offensive series of the year, Daboll calls some mystifying plays that failed completely and we go out with a whimper.
