UCL is a year injury minimum. Baseball pitchers usually take 2 years to get back to normal after that surgery. At Ben's age that amount of rehab can't sound fun.

He has been out most of the season and he isn't close to being back. He's 25% of the way there if he's lucky and doesn't suffer set backs or reinjuries.

At this point you rehab on the company dime and keep collecting your fat checks. I think it's extremely unlikely that he is ready to throw in 2020 and I wouldn't be shocked if he doesn't come back in 2021.

That's not true. It's a seven-month injury for shortstops (i.e., Didi Gregorious just this year, and he throws 95 mph) and there is research out there that shows that it's an even quicker timetable for QBs. The QB throw is an entirely different throwing motion than pitching a baseball, and there's a lot less stress on the elbow than on a baseball pitcher.

This would have been the year for Pittsburgh to clean house and start a re-build. But that's not the Steeler way. Instead they traded their 1st for a difference-maker and still made a pretty good run at making the playoffs.

Point being, I dont see them selling off assets just because Ben leaves.

Totally agree.  They're still in the playoff hunt in Week 17 with Mason Rudolph and Duck Hodges as their QBs because they have a great OL, good RBs, and a  great D.  This has been their formula for half a century.  Those great Steelers teams of the 70s with Bradshaw were anchored by the Steel Curtain and the running of Franco Harris.

I think there's likely to be a decent crop of veteran QBs available in FA.  Somebody like Case Keenum or Ryan Tannehill probably could get this team to the playoffs next season.

BTW, the Steelers have been without a top tier QB before, and had good success.  In Bill Cowher's 15 years as Pittsburgh HC, he had Roethlisberger for only 3 seasons (and won a SB with him), but his teams won 7 division championsships in those 12 seasons with QBs named O'Donnell, Stewart, Tomczak, and Maddox.  They also made the AFC Conference Championship 4 times and the Super Bowl once.

They'll make due until they find another QB of the caliber of Bradshaw and Roethlisberger.

Right!

Because they will no longer play with a QB in the lineup!

Remember when we traded Reed after Kelly left?

Same thing.

Taysom Hill will take over where Brees left off:P

Ben Roethlisberger “more determined than ever” to come back in 2020

Devlin Hodges will be playing quarterback for the Steelers in their final game of 2019 and the team is hopeful that they’ll get a chance to play a postseason game in 2020.

Whether they advance to the playoffs or not, another quarterback has designs on making starts for them next year. That would be Ben Roethlisberger, who has been out since Week Two with an elbow injury that required him to have surgery.

Roethlisberger sent out a tweet wishing all a Merry Christmas and then followed it up with another one that addressed his plans for the coming year.

His appearance on SNF is not of a man who's training for a return.  It appears he's put on significant weight.

He's going full on carb load, preparing for his cutting phase.

How do you know? Are you well acquainted with him or is it based on reading a few articles over his career where the reporter may or may not have an ax to grind with him?

I live 30 minutes from his home town and the stories that come out of Findlay are far worse than anything the Media has reported. Also well before the media reported it.

This sounds familiar?  Did he rent?
