"I thought Saturday night was the best Bills fight against this New England dynasty."

"They have a defense that can dominate and suffocate and force turnovers and make a quarterback’s day miserable."

The D got manhandled last night.  What's left to prove is that this team can win a playoff game.

The defense gave up 24 pts - I wouldn’t call that getting manhanded.  The Bills offense had 1st and goal at the 8 and couldn’t punch it in.  Also for as many times as the defense get NE off the field, the offense sputtered with 3 and out drives.

Equal blame.  It’s not just on the defense.

Nice article but did you notice that Thad started covering the Bills 20 years ago at the start of their decline?  I think it's pretty clear that Brown is to blame for the last 20 years.

414 yards (second highest of the season).  143 rushing.  23 first downs and 7 3rd down conversions given up.  Gave up scoring drives of 11, 11 and 17 yards.  Coughed up the game winning drive in the 4th Q.

The long drive and time of possession was a tough row to hoe.

There is of course one thing more to prove.

Beating the Patriots soundly. Hope we get another chance for that !

- the offense turning a turnover deep in NE into only 3 points and not 7.

- Josh Allen overthrowing Dawson Knox in the endzone

- Bills going 3 and out after Brown’s TD, forcing a tired defense back on the field.

- 1st and goal from the 8 with the game on the line (offense dropped the ball too)

- Allen misses an open Knox for a TD

17 points!  Not enough to beat a playoff team.

Holding the defense accountable for this loss is the ultimate in scapegoating.  You’re doing a great of it!!!!

Was it worst that having your QB overthrow an open TE for the game tying TD?

I dont get the incessant need to blame the loss on one thing.  so simple minded.

some really weird criticism of this team after this loss.

Come on, he's clearly talking big picture with the (non)bulleted list, which should be evidenced by the final one "These aren’t recent developments. These are things the Bills have been doing all season long, even if every one was not on display Saturday night."

And later "They didn’t get the win this week in New England. The defense had a bad day and Tom Brady had a GOAT-like good one. Both things happen"

He wasn’t wide open he had to throw that over two guys and put it in a spot where the TE would still have to stay inbounds you Allen haters gotta get new material

so wait Defense has won us games (news flash they haven’t) but some say it religiously. So when they are Carved like a Christmas Ham they don’t get their share of blame?

what a Joke. How many times could they have gotten off the field and DIDNT.  Who’s fault is that the Offense?  Josh Allen?

when Rex Burkhead Runs through them like a hot knife thru butter and just punks them breaking tackles do we blame that on Cody Ford?

Some of that may be true but none off it addresses the fact that the Bills D got pushed around last night.

They had a chance to prove they could, at the culmination of all of what he lists, beat NE for once.  How can he say there's nothing left to prove when they've proven that, on the cusp of the playoffs, they couldn't beat this team?

Makes little sense as the subject of an essay.  The "final step" is another loss to NE, a team with a playoff spot locked up?  Nothing left to prove when their one quality win is against the Cowboys?  It's like saying, "sure, they again went 0-2 vs NE, but they really have nothing left to prove".

It was just a strange point in the season to make that claim, that's all.

Yeah, way too much has been made of that throw.

Phil, thanks for sharing as I agree with this article.  Just win at least one playoff game, and hopefully this week in Buffalo, and build for next year.  A second win in the playoffs would be a blessing, but not expected from me.

Decent article.

The Bills need to prove in the playoffs they can beat these teams now. I would like to see Allen playing like every QTR is the 4th.

nah, not happening this year.   but the process is paying off this year, instead of next year.   always thought it would take 3 years minimum to recover from Rex/Whaley debacle and build a culture of disciplined cap management , solid drafting and locker room rebuilding.  they did it in two years.  they will simply continue and the results will improve.  Now is not the time.  They cannot score enough points to beat the top 5 teams.   But the day will come as they will stick to their conceptual framework and continue to improve across the board.  Wins and success will just "happen" as a by product of their process.
