Sorry if posted here before, but THIS is what I fear happens under a Democratic president:

Recommended Posts

No, he got 15 years because Iowa has a "habitual offender" statute, and because this idiot explicitly confessed to a hate crime, it elevated the class A misdemeanor of third-degree arson to a class D felony.  And since this moron had two previous felony convictions, it was his third strike, and carried a 15 year minimum.

Now there's a whole lot of stupid packed in that - the unconstitutionality of "three strikes" and "habitual offender" laws, mandatory sentencing guidelines, the unconstitutionality of "hate speech" laws in general, and in this specific case.  But ultimately, he wasn't given a 16 years sentence for burning a rainbow flag; he was given a 16 year sentence for violating a set of statutes that criminalizes being an inveterate shitmudgeon.

And that's the discussion you should have - not about "homosexual orthodoxy," but about a statutory justice system that is demonstratively unconstitutional.  But you'll discuss "homosexual orthodoxy" instead.  Because you're Joe.  Don't be Joe, kids.

What about Bernie Madoff?

....or better yet, how about another one of our fine NYS political skanks, Sheldon Silver?......STILL not in jail despite being convicted in retrial 14 months ago.....and his co-thief Joe Bruno was acquitted..........and probably not one cent of restitution......in the meantime, Guido Cuomo is chasing Trump's tax returns as well as making numerous trips to Puerto Rico to sympathize with their honorable (COUGH) politicians as to how Trumped screwed out of hurricane relief money.....next up, he's working on legislation to ban styrofoam containers....

The arbitrary sentences are just as bad as the arbitrary non sentences. The OP based this thread on a false premise but to subscribe to the idea that lengthy sentences should be reserved for the physically violent offenders is just as bad. Bernie Madoff hurt a lot of people, bad.
