OK, once again for our penultimate edition of Net Points vs Wins, the thing I do every week to try to make the point that it doesn't matter too much how many points you score or how many points you give up - what it comes down to as the clock expires is "what is the difference?"

The PoeBirds, NE****, and the 49'ers have both great offense, and great defense, are leading the field in point diff, and remain the teams to beat.

For the rest: contrary to popular opinion which loves its offensive stats, there are three ways to succeed:

-great offense, meh defense (NO)
-great defense, meh offense (Bills)

-above-average competence on both sides of the ball (Tenn - that 's them to the R of the Lambs but their label didn't copy)

I don't know what's up with the ESPN standings.

We should be 8th, not 10th.  Data from NFL.com

It's just point differential/number of games, so 69/14

Surprised the Seahawks are so low. Houston looks super beatable in the playoffs.

First off ....   I work with rocket scientists ...

secondly ....   I was being sarcastic / joking

thirdly ...  I love

69

its so much cooler than saying the Bills margin of victory is 4.9 ppg

Houston's low because they have given up so many points.

Houston is interesting.  They have given up just over the league average ppg -  one point more, 23.6 vs 22.6

They have scored 2 more points over the league average ppg, 24.4.

The top teams have also benefited from D & STs scoring.  Bills have 0 defensive and ST points this year.

Good point; the data would come out to between 2 and 3 additional ppg if I'm doing my math correctly.  Taking off those points would pull the outliers (Poebirds, NE, SF) closer in to the pack but they would still be out in front by a long ways.

Back to back last in the league.   ouch.

I think it bodes well going into the playoffs tbh...means the Bills' point differential is a fairly reliable indicator of where the team stands overall as ST/defensive TDs are largely sporadic and harder to predict (or rely upon)
