Just watched the final play again.

I disagree with the supposition that Beasely was wide open for a sure frist down.  He was 6 yards behind the sticks and moving horizontally across the field, not vertically up the field. He has separation from Humphries, but there's no guarantee he doesn't close and make the tackle before the sticks.

Brown was the right throw, and he should have made the play. It was a tough catch however, and the ball was a bullet. If Allen has more touch and arc on that throw to lead Brown into the end zone it's a TD. But he threw it on a rope. It beat Peters because of its velocity but Brown used poor technique and didn't make the play.

Peter's doesn't touch the ball. It hits John Brown on his left hand, which he is using to shield Peters. But Brown doesn't have his right hand up to catch the ball, and it goes sailing right past into the end zone, end of game.

You're ignoring momentum.  Beasley is 3 yards away from Humphrey, who's also moving away from Beasley.  There's no way that he makes up the ground before the first down.  The only possibility would be the safety, but he was being taken out of the play by McKenzie.   At the very least it's a first down.

In retrospect, a throw to Beasley would have been the better option, but that may be asking too much of Allen at this point.  He's still learning to process faster and he was getting hammered all day.  Again, all Brown had to do was sell the pattern better.

This is the correct analysis of the play. Allen needs to get to this level of awareness and he'll be a force.

Yes, but that's a really sharp angle throw to lead Beasley horizontally across the field. There's a high probability that Bease has to slow down to make the catch giving Humphries time to close the distance between them.

I said it before the play, "I hope they don't try to force it in to John Brown because he has been blanketed all day".  I understand he has been solid all year, and have nothing against him, just was going by the flow of the game.... To which I was really hoping they would go Beasley's way as he had shown the ability to beat his defender consistently that day.

Imo Beasley should always be the first read in critical situations.  He consistently gets separation.  Looking for him to beat man cover quickly should be a no brainier, it's what he was brought here to do.

With that said, Allens best pass was the last play of the game.  Wrong decision imo, but the best pass he threw all day.

Looking carefully at the film, my take is that Beasley is very good at working until he gets separation in space, but he doesn't always get it in TIME.

Sometimes he's open quickly, and sometimes he has to work for it.  In the Ravens game, he was being held a lot - he almost always breaks free, but it takes him time.

The final play was an example of that.  At the point where Josh threw (and he was right to throw when he did, he had defenders who would have broken contain and been on him in another 2 counts), Beasley had only just started his break and it wasn't yet clear he was gonna get that separation.

The Ravens brought 8 guys on an all out blitz and played the receivers in man coverage.  Beasley broke open 2 seconds after the snap.  Josh made the right call.  Man coverage, 4th-game you send the ball to your #1.  What you don't do is come off your number one to look at a guy 2 yards past the LoS and wait for him to come open when 8 guys are coming at you to rip your head off.  Especially with how fast they got to him all game long.

Are you saying this because you’ve examined the replay, and reached the conclusion that Beasley was open 2 seconds after the snap?  Beasley was open well before Brown made his break.

Again, Allen thought he had time to go with only one read, and chose Brown.  He could also have chosen to go with Beasley as his first read.   With perfect hindsight, choosing Beasley would have been a better option.  Also, with more maturing, Allen would have recognized that he also had time to go to his second option.
