Stallions Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 I've seen on other posts that many people still think NFL officials rely on other employment and are part-time amateurs. NOT SO! Based on the new contract between the NFL and the NFLRA signed in September 2012, NFL referees will earn an average of $173,000 in 2013, and move up to an average of $205,000 by 2019. Money reports that NFL officials in 2019 make about $201,000 a year, and that they receive a defined-contribution 401(k) plan with an annual deposit of $18,000 and a partial matching contribution. As a referee, Walt Coleman is paid more than $3,000 per game and has one of the highest starting salaries. Walt makes around $205,000 per year, which is the veteran salary for referee – assuming that he referees an average of 16 games per year, Walt Coleman makes around $50,000 during the NFL season.
WMDman Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 They may be well paid but they certainly suck... 2
RyanC883 Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 this is why it’s time to weed out the non-performers. Next time the CBA is up let them strike. A certain percentage of them clearly don't care about doing a good job. 1
Kiva Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 All they do is follow the script. Vegas runs the NFL.

Something is wrong with the math in your post. If Coleman is paid $3,000/game, he would make $57,000 if he plays all 19 games. The claim I have isn't that the NFL officials are "amateurs" - we all know they're paid - it's whether or not they are full time and have accountability/grading for their calls This CNBC article has different claims on how much they are paid. https://www.cnbc.com/2019/01/30/heres-how-much-nfl-referees-get-paid.html CBS reports that the average age of these 121 officials is about 51 years old, and that they earn between $4,000 and $10,000 a game. Money reports that NFL officials in 2019 make about $201,000 a year $4000 per game would be $64,000 for a 16 game season, and $10,000 per game would be $160,000 for a 16 game season, and neither is "about $201,000/yr"
