StHustle Posted December 6, 2019 Posted December 6, 2019 (edited) Doug Flutie is still the Bills best QB since Kelly (Josh is nipping at his heels). SMH at the hate for a guy who gave his all week after week and has THE BEST winning percentage of all QBs in Bills history. What happened to him NEVER HAPPENED TO ANY OTHER STARTING QB IN NFL HISTORY. And still hasn't happened since. People wanted him to suck it up and accept it like he isnt a human being and a man who was Robbed (pun intended) of what he earned. So many bash him but Flutie was a WINNER and a PRO BOWLER. Sure we averaged the #3 defense during the 3 years he was with us but Offense can have a huge effect on those defensive rankings (our defense fell like 20 spots after he left) PLUS we had plenty top 5 defenses over the dought and no QB had a winning record (sans Orton who was 7-5) let alone 70% winning percentage. SHOW THE MAN SOME RESPECT!!! Edited December 6, 2019 by StHustle 3 1 1 3 1

In Flutie's defense, to make it as a 5'9 QB in the pro's, one would need a healthy ego to survive all the naysayers on the way there. He wasn't just battling physical obstacles, but the obstacle of perception which often times is harder than the physical to overcome.
Bad Things Posted December 6, 2019 Posted December 6, 2019 Will this help wash away The Flutie Curse?
tcampbell104 Posted December 6, 2019 Posted December 6, 2019 i dont believe in a qb that when they keep you in the pocket and make you beat them with his, arm usually he couldnt 1

Ethan in Cleveland Posted December 6, 2019 Posted December 6, 2019 WTF. Why are they bring Flutie back? He's not a legend and left under bad terms. 1

Flutie is indeed a Legend. Highest win percentage for a QB in Bills History. Was unceremoniously benched for a lesser QB which led to the Music City Miracle and then the longest playoff drought in NFL History. He had his own cereal. And was the original MAGIC QB before Fitz. Him leaving under bad terms WAS NOT HIS FAULT. Was clearly Ralph's fault. He had every right to be PISSED and react the way he did after fighting all year to get us in position for a superbowl run, only to be benched cause our backup looked good in a no pressure game. BTW the team we should have AND WOULD HAVE beat if Flutie started, went on to the superbowl and lost in the last seconds. Could have/should have been us with a chance to win a ring that year. SMH. Flutie was ROBBED! LONG LIVE THE LEGEND OF FLUTIE!!! 7 1 1

Love him or hate him, he's the only Bills QB since Jim Kelly with a winning record (JA currently notwithstanding). He's a malcontent when he's benched behind inferior QB's. We win the Titans game if Wade wasn't a ***** about starting Scrub Johnson. Flutie was fine here until that happened. That Bills/Jax game was great. One of the few games I attended live, and what a memory! I really liked Flutie, but agreed with then (and even still now) the decision to go with RJ. RJ was looking great, and he played pretty well in that Titans game too. We all know how it should have ended! 1

Rob Johnson completed 10 of 22 passes for 131 yards, 0 TDs, 6 sacks, 3 Fumbles and gave up a safety. You consider that playing "pretty well" ??? Anyone who paid any attention to how Flutie played and his skill set KNOWS we win that game with him behind center. Heck we almost, and should have still won despite how garbage RJ played. Bottom line, we arent in position for a run back to cost us the game if Flutie started like he should have, 1 2

You can point to the stats, but if you recall, that Tenn Def was ridiculous with Kearse. He was unblockable all year and I don’t think tenn lost at home that year. for how Flutie was playing down the stretch in the regular season compared to how RJ looked in that last regular season game, I can see why the team made the call. And I was a fan of both guys! 1

Bottom line, we arent in position for a run back to cost us the game if Flutie started like he should have, Flutie's arm by then was shot and he really couldn't get the ball downfield. That year, Flutie seemed to basically stink most of the game, but would often manage to do something exciting in the 4th quarter to pull out the win. Johnson played a very Flutie-like game in that playoff game. He stunk most of the game but made an exciting (and Flutiesque) pass, having lost a shoe, to put the Bills ahead with on 16 seconds to play. Special Teams blew that game, not RJ, The year before in the playoffs, Flutie FUMBLED to lose the game. He was the goat in that game. What in the world makes people think the outcome would have been different against the Titans? If you really think Flutie was The Man for that job, what became of his career after that year? Did he "just win" after that? Flutie was done. Truth is, he was done much earlier than the Bills realized. I'm not defending RJ here. As it turns out, his career in the NFL was as forgettable as Flutie's was after that year. But he was young, had an arm (something Flutie lacked by then) and was clearly the QB of the future for the Bills---if anyone on the roster was going to get that job. His performance the game before was pretty impressive and IMO he deserved to get the start. And keep in mind, Flutie's NFL career isn't really anything to brag about. A career backup in the NFL (with a few starts in NE), he was never able to breakthrough. Since his ego was three times his height, he wouldn't be a backup (where he probably would have excelled, IMO) he dodged the NFL and escaped to Canada. There he excelled!! But his best years were with the Bills, no doubt. B But what convinces some people the Bills would have beaten the Titans if Flutie had played? There is nothing in his NFL past or future that suggest that. He was the QB for ZERO wins in the NFL previously (or in the future). In fact, since he fumbled the previous year's playoff game away, what makes you so sure the Bills would have won? Flutie? Exciting QB who was fun to watch. Great college and CFL QB. Career NFL backup/journeyman with 2-3 years of pretty decent play. He was a poor man's Fitz. Perhaps the most overrated NFL player of our time. 1
MJS Posted December 6, 2019 Posted December 6, 2019 The Flutie hate is silly. Flutie is one of the best QB's to have played for the Bills. I'm not just saying that, it's a fact. He's one of the few that took us to playoff games. He's one of the very few that have a winning record. And what do all of you haters think he did that was so horrible? He wanted to play. He didn't respect Johnson because Flutie knew he sucked. He was vocal about it. Why is that such a big deal, especially when he was right? Rob Johnson was a crappy QB. If things weren't so political for the Bills those years, it would have been clear that Flutie should have been starting the whole time. 2 2
