I keep forgetting the republican method of if you can't defend something either change the subject or attack the messenger. 304042[/snapback] You probably know that I'm no fan of Bush, and your point is taken, but 48% of that trade deficit increase can be directly attributed to the increase in the cost of oil (no link, I read it last night somewhere, but I'm sure that it can be googled). There are numbers being released on Friday (by the DoC?) that will shed more light on the trade defiicit as it includes cash flows. I'll be intererested in seeing the foreign money coming in. I think it will probably show some record high levels. I also believe that it will show the begining of a trend whereby foreign loans will tighten and the fuel for the blank check policies of our fearless leader and his cohorts will slow to a relative trickle. The control that opec has on oil prices is insane. They do not produce the majority of oil and all they ever do is talk about an increase or decrease of a small percentage which make prices go all over the board. Last year $162 billion dollars left the US and landed in China (that was the trade surplus.) China is also the 2nd biggest holder of U.S. Treasuries (after Japan). An interesting idea that Bush supports is turning old oil platforms in the ocean into fish farms. $7 billion in the overall trade deficit is from seafood.
