Someone here coined the term "Flutopians" for those that doggedly insist that Dougie was the best thing ever.

Will there be a persistent cadre of "Bledites" following in those footsteps, reminding one and all from time to time of the folly of his dismissal?

I can't see that. Lots of people liked Fwootie because he was cute and cuddly, and would sometimes pull off a sandlot play. Drew isn't cute and cuddly, and he is kinda boring as a QB.

i'm a flutopian, because doug's big chance to get to the SB was just taken from him without reason or rhyme. bledsoe had every chance to go the distance. he proved he will always falter in the big game, and thus i won't still be defending him 5 years from now.

however.... i wish people would show drew a little more respect than they do. he did a TON to help this team out. no he didnt do a lot on the field, off the field though he did way more for the Bills than we all give him credit for.

i already consider myself to be one of the LOSers b/c i'm planning to support our new starting QB for at least a season no matter how much he struggles.

Nope. Beelzebub broke the mold when he made Doug Flutie.

The song goes .. girls don't like guys. Girls like cars and money. In this case both male and female Girls liked the guy who would break their plastic hearts. The Dark One, Doug. Master of the eternal Mullet. Hail Mary Wonder. Cover band drummer on a national scale in Holiday Inns while his lonely wife tried to raise their poor autistic kid alone. Flutie Doodie to the Nth degree.

Other than that, I'm still a big fan!

I believe they would have to be called "Bledsores".

Yes, that's better terminology than Bledites! I think that what you say should become the official term.

Umm Doug's "big chance" to get to the Super Bowl came in 1986 when Jim McMahon went down and Flutie took the reins of the defending world champion Bears. All he had to do was play smart while one of the greatest defenses to ever take the field did their thing.

He lost the very first playoff game.

His second "big chance" came in Buffalo when he had another great defense working for him and all he had to do was play smart to continue the Bills postseason dominance of the phish.

He spent all day spitting up turnovers and again lost the very first playoff game.

His last "big chance" was the one you referred to where he had an even better defense and all he had to do was play bad football against inferior opponents to earn a home playoff game and a bye.

He spent all season playing horrible football and as a result never even earned the opportunity to lose the first game.

Your boy is all mouth and no ass, and he always has been.

Bledsoe (for a while) and Flutie (while he was here) brought excitement to the Bills and filled the stands. Let's give them their due and move on. JP promises to do the same and, hopefully, a lot more. We shall see.

Frankly, I've never understood the hatred of Flutie by some on TSW. He was a short, over-achiever, who gave everything he had to his career. Oh, maybe that's it.

simon, hate to chime in so late on this, but against miami in 98, flutie had an better game than you recall against the 3rd ranked pass defense in the league at their stadium. he turned the ball over twice and had one TD pass, but threw for 360 yards and averaged over 10 yards per pass play. i didn't do the math, but i would guess that his qb rating was over 100. don't forget that the bills vaunted d gave up 24 legit points in that game ...
