BigPappy Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 WTH kind of poll is this? It's like asking someone if they would rather have a sharp stick in the eye or up the a$$. smdh
H2o Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 I think the age demographic here will be the determining factor in this poll. Fans who never dealt with the 4 consecutive SB losses will pick the SB, while the ones who clearly remember the early 90's would rather lose in the AFC Title game in a competitive fashion.

I'm 43, lived the SB losses. And at a time when I could drink them away. I'd still take the Superbowl loss over an AFC title game heartbreak. 1
DrDawkinstein Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 Is this in the context of our current team? Or just any team in general? If I'm thinking about this current, young team, I'd rather have them lose a close one in the AFC Champ. It wouldnt kill their confidence and keep them hungry. A blowout SB loss is usually pretty devastating to a team. Heck, Super Bowl WINS are usually devastating to teams. If we're talking some non-real team, and it's just a general question, I'd rather go to the Super Bowl I think. Tough one tho, because EVERY fan sees that SB loss and never forgets it. So you hear about it the rest of your life. Folks forget about Conf Final losses so the wound will heal.

ghostwriter Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 Losing a Super Bowl could reverse the culture change here. Psychologically it’s very hard for players and coaches to overcome. Seems like teams that lose a Super Bowl explode and never make it back.
Livinginthepast Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 I remember all 4 SB losses and the playoff losses going back to Ferguson and co losing to Fout's Chargers. They all stung. But the SB's sting the most. We should have won the first one easily and if better prepared could have taken at least 2 out of the following 3. But it was a poor planning and lack of adjustments in game that did us in at every turn. The worst non SB playoff loss is that game in Cleveland in the 1989 season (which was the Harmon dropped pass). In the end I would rather have them lose in the AFC championship than blow another SB!
LabattBlue Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 (edited) Excellent thread title. ...and I chose losing in the AFC Championship game. No need to be kicked in the nuts a fifth time...and a blowout loss would do just that. Edited November 26, 2019 by LabattBlue
whatdrought Posted November 26, 2019 Author Posted November 26, 2019 I think my thought process of it is that coming just short of the SB leaves a "we've got more work to do, but we're on the cusp of making it happen. Time to grind." while getting embarrassed in the SB has a finality feeling to it. Obviously this can be overcome as well, but some things linger longer. I think of the Falcons and the Panthers. Both embarrassed in the SB, both have been up and down (though mostly down) since then. That being said, the Broncos got embarrassed in the SB and then got right back within a couple years, but that was with one of the greatest professionals to play the game at QB, and with a new coaching staff. I feel like it's easier to go into the next season after a close loss, rather than a blow out.

Which is preferable, and why? This is purely a thought exercise based on a random thought I had today. Not saying either is likely or desirable. Trick question... The Bills win the Super Bowl by 42+ points
buffaloboyinATL Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 Easy, Super Bowl. 'Cause when we get there, I'll start a new hypothetical poll, that will supersede your hypothetical poll, and both options will have us winning the game. Something like: Would you rather the Bills win the Super Bowl, but you have to use ranch dressing on your wings, or the Bills win the Super Bowl and you run out of beer in the 2nd quarter.

Oh man, those scenarios suck! 1
MJS Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 I'll take a super bowl blowout. That means we got to the Superbowl and everything is uphill from there. If THIS squad can make a Superbowl, what will we be able to do after another draft, free agency, and $90 million in cap space?
frostbitmic Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 I'd rather win the Super Bowl .... But I'm just greedy. 1
Augie Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 Go as far as you can! Why not? A couple more weeks of fun and anticipation. I’d rather lose than be afraid to try.
