Freak-O Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 They looked pretty good yesterday, as well as the week before. But it's not that long ago they didn't. The offense has been inconsistent but I like all the pieces and I think they're headed the right way. The long TD pass by Allen yesterday is something I've been wanting to see the entire season.

Winning by 17 points when your opponent scores only 3 isn't a testament to the offense this week, it's a testament to the defense. The offense had such amazing starting field position so many times throughout this game, yet wouldn't go anywhere with it. They also couldn't capitalize in the redzone, often going backwards instead of putting up any real threat of scoring TD's. If the offense was "figured out," they sure didn't look like it yesterday. When you consistently start around the 40 yard line (or in opponent's territory) and keep coming away having to punt, it's a sign there's a LOT of work to be done. If you think this means the Bills have escaped the "scrape by crappy opponents" by putting up a whopping 20 points against a 3-8 team and 37 points against a 2-9 team then I'm happy for you. But if we're going to use those teams as measuring sticks, I guess the Jets are even more dominant having beat the 6-5 Raiders by 31 points and the 2-9 Redskins by 17 points (we only beat them by 16!) The Browns also just blew out the Dolphins 41 to 24... I thought everyone was saying Baker Mayfield was trash? But since we're now claiming scoring 20 points against the Broncos & 37 against the Dolphins means we've arrived, I guess Mayfield & Darnold have arrived too! At least both of them have beaten teams with winning records. I don't think any of us are under the illusion we're some elite offense, but if Denver was scoring yesterday, there is zero doubt in my mind that we don't put up 27-30 points on them. We went into grind it out mode up 13-3 and basically shut it down up 20-3 with over half a quarter left. That's two games in a row where our offense looks to be putting it together. Josh Allen is starting to stack good games and we have an identity in being up-tempo with a strong rushing attack and speed in the passing game.

Augie Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 They are still a work in progress, but they are progressing. It won’t be perfect, and there will be rough stretches, but just keep going in the right direction in general. We will add a few new parts for next year, but we won’t be swapping out NINE starters again. I’m generally quite pleased so far.

At least both of them have beaten teams with winning records. From a yardage and points standpoint the Broncos do have a top 10 defense. Penalties and drops really killed drives in the 2nd half. We had a very run oriented attack to this one, and putting yourself behind the sticks tends to get away from that gameplan. Feleciano red zone hold put us at 1st and goal from the 15. This one basically took 4 points off the board. Multiple penalties in the last 2 minutes kind of just - cratered any chance of that drive getting points. Mckenzie hold on a drive in the 2nd half put them at 1st and 20 instead of 2nd and 7 from the denver 40. Hard to say but this probably took points off the board in the 3rd quarter. Ford holding put them at 1st and 20. Right after a nice mckenzie 3rd down conversion we were on the denver 42. 3 big holding penalties that killed drives or took points off the board. I didn't see any of them on instant replay because CBS sucks (the mckenzie one was stupid and blatant) - but either way - gotta be better. Its probably like a 10 point difference in this one. I also think there were a few situations in a normal game i might go for it on 4th - or be more aggressive in Playcalling. But by the 4th quarter i didn't think brandon allen was going to make any plays so, why not just be a bit safe and win it that way.

Between the Pats week 4 and the Browns week 10 decidedly less so. This week was, as @HappyDays referred to above, the first time they did it against a genuinely good defense. Once I can see this consistently, I will feel a lot better about about things. Josh (and the offense) has played relatively well the last 2 weeks and needs to keep building on it... 1 hour ago, apuszczalowski said: It's more that the Cowboys are better then any of the teams that the Bills have beat this season. Are people here really confident that when they need to start playing the better teams in the league when they have to score more then 20 points, that the Bills will not have a problem doing it? They scored what the Broncos defence has averaged giving up all season. Let's be honest, the cowboys are a poorly coached team, and have been for a long time, but they have some damn good individual players and a monster OL. Good coaching would make them a much better team and could have helped them win yesterday.

Earlier in the season I would have said move Ford inside, but today going up against Von Miller, hardly heard Miller or Ford mentioned. Maybe Ford is fine at RT, particularly with a year under his belt. Sometimes we should just use the full words. 1

Big Turk Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 (edited) I'm really liking how they seem to have success running the ball even against good run D's like the Broncos and the Titans(at least they were when we played them). Broncos were ranked #11 giving up only 100 yards a game total on the ground and we just gashed them for 244 Edited November 25, 2019 by matter2003

Good coaching would make them a much better team and could have helped them win yesterday. They have their flaws, but they are also one of the better teams the Bills will have faced this season, and so far this year, when the Bills are facing a tough team, they haven't looked good. They scored the amount of points that the Broncos defence has averaged giving up this year (you could mention yards, but according to everyone yards don't matter, only the score board at the end of the game). The defence looked very good against one of the the worst offences in the league. The Bills did what they were supposed to do and won the game which is great. But if they want to be viewed as a contender and respected around the league and by the network's like everyone thinks they should be because of their record, they aren't going to get that by just doing what's needed to get the win. Everyone complains about excuses and that there's always going to be people complaining or having excuses 'they played a bad team', 'Allen didn't have x amount of yards', 'they didn't win by enough', etc. But the same happens with the other side 'well they shut the offence down and didn't try to score', 'if they didn't have a penalty here the score would have been different', 'Dayboll didn't call the right plays', 'If player X caught the ball.....'. It goes both ways. I don't think anyone here is not enjoying the wins or are wishing they would lose so they can be right. The problem is that while everyone's enjoying the wins, some are looking further then the scoreboard and see the faults in this team that will be a problem when they start having to play tougher competition. They don't look like a team that would have the record they do and more like a team who's stats are inflated by having a very easy schedule so far. Some may be happy just watching game by game and not expect much while hoping to have their expectations exceeded, others are looking ahead and taking a cautious approach because they know that not every team they face is going to be at the bottom of the standings. 19 minutes ago, The Real Buffalo Joe said: What makes you assume i was talking about FA RT. It's become such a passing league today that giving up 100 yards total on the ground sounds almost average for most defences.
ILBillsfan Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 Offense seems to be getting really close. Definitely can see that they are getting better. really strong game vs a good Denver defense. The line played lights out

CLTbills Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 I'll say this. They are definitely peaking at the right time... just in time for this final push toward the postseason.
NoSaint Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 6 hours ago, eball said: Hey man, you start the threads you want to start and I'll start the threads I want to start. Everyone has trashed the offense and in back to back weeks they've looked like a better-than-average NFL offense. I don't think there's anything wrong with recognizing that even when the team wasn't scoring they've been moving the ball, as evidenced by their overall yardage ranking. They just won two NFL games in a row by 17 points, which is an anomaly in this league. With so many new pieces and the limited amount of time the CBA allows for practice, it was only reasonable to suggest it would take them some time. If you want to carry on with the "yeah, but I need to see it consistently" refrain be my guest, but I see an offense that is most definitely trending up and giving opponents multiple things to worry about. you can start any thread you want, and people can go ahead and not agree with the premise of it when you do. I think the problem here is assuming the trend line off very limited data points. They played good games. They are also remarkably healthy, and one of those was the Dolphins. the performances were also pretty darn close to “average” for offenses against these teams. the dolphins average point differential is 16.6 per game and allowing 32 per game. We outperformed slightly on the total but remarkably close on differential and we were pretty spot on average to what the broncos allow in points. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a 20-3 win be a situation that gets the offense much praise. Having back to back relatively average games gets more of a good job than a rub it in people’s faces reaction from me is all
zow2 Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 The Bills offense Dominated yesterday as much as the D. I was really impressed against a solid Denver D. The score should have been much more lopsided based on the stats and field position. The penalties really screwed them up. Gotta clean up that part. But overall i think the O looks much better than a few weeks ago.
Reed83HOF Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 Here is 2018 to 2019 for our offense. Please note that I only used Josh Allen only for passing. 2018 = 11 GS & 12 GP 2019 = 11 GS & 11 GP The Rushing & Team categories for 2018 = 16 games and 2019 = 11 games = I'm too lazy for that The orange color is how close to the worst team we are, not the best While improved, we still have a way to go and everyone should still be worried about the offense when we play better opponents...
Billsfan1972 Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 (edited) Many won't disappear until there is that 300 yard game, the ability to come back down 14+ (yes did that vs the Jets) and win a shootout (which all could happen this Thursday?). BTW only team other then the Bills not to throw for 300 yards this season...... The Deadskins. When everything goes well (offense & defense) that's one thing, but the Bills again have played some of the worst offenses in Football this year (though NYJ & some others have turned it around) and certainly some of the worst defenses. I am 100% a JA backer, but again want to see 30+ points (and not vs. the Dolphins). Edited November 25, 2019 by Billsfan1972
