This has been discussed in the thread.  ThT narrative about Seantrel is a cop out.  Why didn’t Seantrel follow the proper protocol and notify the NFL that he was prescribed medical marijuana?

A cop out? What does that even mean? Are you suggesting he was using his Crohn's disease as an excuse to smoke pot? Do you think that he has a substance abuse problem in the vein of Karlos Williams? Because the would be an ignorant assumption.

Also, as I recall, he was very straightforward regarding his medical marijuana needs, and use. Read this article on his struggle with the disease, and then tell us how he "copped out."

That’s different! Players aren’t using the substance at work. Your work can’t tell you not to drink at home on the weekend, can they????

Depends on job.  A friend who is an airline pilot got notice about alcohol use 2 days before a flight he was supposed to be backup pilot on a flight.  He had drink with dinner that night and had a random test at work.  He rarely drinks and his union recommended he fight it just so it does not set precedent in file since amount of alcohol was so low.

Federal contractors in all 50 states and all US territories may not use MJ despite it being "legal" in some states.

Nothing is absolute about jobs.

This had been researched before when he was a Bill.  He was a habitual user in college before any signs of disease so he is not an ideal test case for union to use in fight.

It’s already been debated heavily among national commentators that medicinal weed is likely to be unbanned since it is now legal when a doctor prescribes it in a ton of states. Also it’s likely to be unbanned at the next CBA. You can’t have society make it legal and then your employer suspend you for it. They aren’t driving heavy machinery !!!!

I have some contracts with nicotine free policies to show you.

It certainly is quite a coincidence that the “one” thing that works for Seantrel’s disease is a drug he used regularly prior to diagnosis.

I am going to preempt the response with the response of ....Ryan Bates.

They aren’t cutting Bates. He’s in addition to Bates, if signed.

On a related note, Ford will be asked to block Von Miller and Demarcus Lawrence in our next 2 games. That has me worried. CF has been a major disappointment so far. Still, I like to think he could become a decent RG some day.

Where did you find the word "habitual?" I don't know of any credible source that has described him as "habitual." He had a history of smoking marijuana in college. Do you know who else had a history of smoking marijuana in college? That's a rhetorical question. Millions upon millions of people have smoked weed in college. I smoked weed in college. I'm 55 years old, and I still smoke once in a great while. And, that does not qualify me as "habitual."

This is disingenuous. Seantrel smoked marijuana in college. Sure, that would be "prior" to diagnosis, but there is no evidence that he smoked in the NFL for anything other than medical reasons. And, I hope you look at that article I linked. His condition was utterly dire. It's miraculous that he was able to work his way back into the NFL.

EDIT: And, I don't know if you've ever smoked yourself, but habitual marijuana use most certainly does not lend itself to the sort of work ethic required to work one's way back from the effects Seantrel suffered-- 50 lbs of weight loss, 2 1/2 feet of intestine removed, four months of crapping into an ileostomy bag attached to a hole in his waist. It's beyond me that anyone would sweat his use of medical marijuana, and not instead just admire his resiliency.

How is that disingenuous? He smoked prior to diagnosis. He smoked regulalry enough to get suspended THREE TIMES in college for it. Then he gets diagnosed and it’s the only treatment that works for him. And he gets suspended again for it in the NFL.

I have seen many people with colostomies. It sucks. I can appreciate the gravity of Seantrel’s condition, as well as the coincidence of marijuana as his first line treatment. It’s possible to have two thoughts in one brain.

This has been discussed ad nauseum.

Marijuana (or opioids, for that matter) is not part of the standard of care for treating Crohn’s disease.  It is not prescribed, typically, by Crohns specialists to treat the acute or chronic phases of this disease.

Henderson would not, therefore, have received a medical exception.  Knowing this, he smoked anyway, knowing it was a violation.  The consequences are his to bear.  There is no alternative in this situation at this point.

They don’t get it. By just saying, “It’s a treatment!” is not a valid excuse for the NFL.

You cant say you need HGH and then just take it, either.

This has been discussed ad nauseam, other than to say that Henderson's previous suspensions for medical marijuana use should not be a consideration in whether the Bills sign him.

Who said Bates was getting cut? I was continuing a on-going pattern of responses indicating Bates as the alternative to Seantrel.
