He was a high draft pick too, going in the first half of the second round. A lot of people thought he'd go in the late first.

Walter Football was pretty high on him: https://walterfootball.com/scoutingreport2015jphillips.php

In this draft scouting report, he's compared to Snacks Harrison: https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2410300-jordan-phillips-nfl-draft-2015-scouting-report-grade-for-dolphins-rookie

The larger point is that guys like Phillips aren't always going to be ideal employees, and you have to actually manage them because the talent is there. You can't give up on it. Maybe you trade the player or sit him down, but cutting a talented player like that when you're 3-1 (which is what the Dolphins were after 4 games last season) is just plain dumb. Phillips wasn't his guy -- he was drafted just prior to the last year of the Joe Philbin era -- and Gase's emotional reaction got the best of him (as it did with other players). It certainly worked out for the Bills -- Phillips has been truly disruptive this season.

I’ll admit I didn’t think Gase was as bad as people made him out to be. But he seems to have some social issues and is a total weirdo.  He’s probably fine as an OC but isn’t a leader of men.  Happy to admit I’m wrong and that he’s the Jets coach.

He technically sacked Fitz in Buffalo but because it was so fast, it was just logged as TFL.

He should have 8 sacks.

Not counting it as a sack cost me a fantasy football win.  Still waiting to reverse the decision.

Agree 100%. The more I see of him, he seems like an introvert who has a decent grasp of the x's and o's, but has trouble leading people.

Big of you to finally come around and admit your mistake.

Cutting "not my guy" is one of the most overdone and stupid things new coaches and GMs do. It's just dumb. And only should be done if that coach or GM already evaluated the guy in college specifically and in depth, ALREADY didn't like him, then studied his entire pro career in depth, STILL didn't like him, and thought we could do significantly better.

I thought they were gonna do that to Ed yesterday. I’m pretty sure it was gonna be a run and Ed just got back there way too fast.

And this is not about how Phillips will be motivated to play the Dolphins because he’s upset they cut him.

Why would be be upset? If anything, I'm guessing he's grateful.

Is there any other Jet players lurking out there that can help the Bills?

Come on Gase, help us out some more!

Gase never wanted Bell.

He definitely has the dead body of his mother still laying in the bed they share.

Yeah, I’m shocked as you are that I was wrong!  I do think the Jets season is different if they don’t lose Darnold and Mosley though.  But Gase has an awful personality.  They are better off admitting their mistake and moving on.

And not just in football. Happens in ordinary workplace environments all the time when the new boss shows up. And it's not less stupid. I attribute it to insecurity.
