John Brown has now notched his 10th consecutive 4-catch/50-yard performance, extending the team record he established last week. His 760 receiving yards also marks a team record for the most yards by a Bill in their first 10 games.

 

John Brown is now past 50 catches on the season, making him the fastest Bill (10 games) to 50 catches since Stevie Johnson (10 games) in 2010.

I think he is a excellent WR but I don’t see him as a number one.  He struggles on the contested catches.  He is not in the league of a Michael Thomas or Julio Jones.

JB has been great, super consistent too and has a great rapport with JA. As others have mentioned, I still think it'd serve them well to bring in another outside receiver to create some matchup issues for opposing defenses. Beasley can stay in the slot and hopefully they continue to involve Knox more because he can definitely be a weapon.

I look at it as 1A, 1B, 2, 3, etc. All 1’s and 2’s can line up in a few spots if needed. 3’s are more limited. 

 

1A is your elite WRs... Big, fast, run great routes, etc. They can dominate games against all but the most elite corners, and even then they make some critical plays in a game. Jones, Adams, Evans, etc belong here. 
 

1B is that step below. These guys have some elite traits, but something that keeps them from being elite. They’re perhaps small or slow, maybe they haven’t mastered routes yet. Maybe they’re not elite at anything but one step below that in everything. They can dominate games, but can be taken away by CBs whose abilities mirror theirs or double teams. This is where the DeSean Jackson’s and Alshon Jeffery’s reside. My cutoff for this group is Robert Woods. I think John Brown is in this group. 
 

The 2 group contains guys with a few limitations, but do a couple things exceptionally well. Think bigger and slower... Doesn’t run the best routes, but runs a few really good routes and knows how to settle into zones. Might be more complete, but has concentration lapses and drops balls, etc. I think there’s fluidity here as many of these guys are younger and can move up or down. 
 

3’s are generally limited to a role and don’t do well outside of that role. They might also be one trick ponies with an amazing trick (4.2 40). Most of these guys are specialists. Some become critical components because they master their role, and when they get to that point they can be nightmares for defenses. 
 

4’s are developmental or special teams guys who may not be on a roster in a few years. They’re generally young or provide value in other aspects of the game.

I think the focus on getting a "#1 WR" is misplaced. Brown is solid. The problem the team has is that he's apparently the only solid WR they have. Isaiah McKenzie had the second most targets today and he probably couldn't even make a lot of other rosters.

Brown is really good. He's the #1 on this team, but I think in a perfect world it would be best for him to be your #2. He hasn't shown an ability to make contested catches or make big #1 receiver plays. He catches the ball when he's open, which is great, but he's not dynamic in the air or after the catch, two traits you typically look for in a #1.

 

I think using his stats as evidence that he's a #1 is a bit misguided. Last year, some people used Zay's stats in comparison to other #2s to show that he was ostensibly a legit #2. I prefer to go with the eyeball test and what I see in terms of dynamic playmaking ability.

He has been a huge surprise this year. I don’t think anyone saw this production coming. Kudos should be given to Daboll as well for designing route trees to his strength.

Brown has 817 receiving yards

He's currently #7 in receiving yards, tied for #14 in receptions, and tied for #26 in TD's. He's definitely performing like a #1 WR option.
