This article is a hoot! ....

There has been no permanent ambassador to Ukraine since career diplomat Marie Yovanovitch was forced out in May following attacks in the right-wing media and critical comments from Trump’s personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani.  ... and the smear campaign waged against her by Giuliani and his associates have been central to the impeachment ... ?

Anyhooo posting for the leave-date.

Top U.S. diplomat in Ukraine to leave post at end of year

Bill Taylor testified at the House Intelligence Committee's inquiry into President Donald Trump's hold on military aid to Ukraine.

</snip>

The timing of Taylor’s departure was expected but it is unclear if he will leave before Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s planned visit to Ukraine next month. Taylor will depart Kyiv on Jan. 2, according to a person familiar with his plans.

Trump has castigated diplomats who testified in the inquiry, calling them “Never Trumpers,” and it’s highly unlikely Pompeo would set foot in Kyiv until Taylor has left the post.

Schumer’s Hail Mary bid to save Democrats’ disastrous impeachment drive

New York Post, by Editorial

Original Article

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer knows his House colleagues bungled their “impeachment inquiry” so badly that they managed to shift public opinion markedly against removing the president. So he’s hoping for a do-over.

That’s the essence of Schumer’s butter-wouldn’t-melt-in-his-mouth proposals for the Senate trial: He’s asking the GOP Senate majority to do what the House Democratic majority opted not to do, namely try to get some more White House documents and compel testimony from witnesses, including acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney and former National Security Adviser John Bolton.

In other words: do more fishing in hopes of getting something that might damage President Trump.

.

Trump and the Executive Branch don't need to do anything to help Congressional Democrats "investigate" him.  And silence isn't equal to admission of any wrongdoing.

That being said, and in light of Schumer's reasons for asking, if Schumer doesn't get to hear from Mulvaney and Bolton how could he possibly vote to convict?  According to Schumer, there's obviously not enough evidence to impeach or to convict.

You know, for all the ***** we give Obama - and I'm still unapologetic about it - we have to give him credit for his most important accomplishment: keeping Hillary out of the White House.  And possibly Joe Biden, too.

this rules hearing is just more posturing. members of the committee are using it as a platform to pontificate rather than doing the work they should be doing. it's disgraceful how polarized our elected officials are.

To me, his most important accomplishment is President Trump.
