Not sure about strength of schedule but chances are it was not nearly as weak as this season.

it took a third season for Jim and a few other noteworthies to start making it click

and Jim came in with vaunted semi-pro experience

I disagree with your 32 teams have a chance to win the super bowl as well.  Buffalo is not and probably never will be a fa destination.  They are also a small market team.  Remember when Gillmore left and said now my family can watch me?  Remember when Antonio Brown refused to come to Buffalo (blessing in disguise)?  New England gets players to take discounts for a chance at winning.  Some cities are more attractive than others and some franchises are more attractive than others.  In the AFC Big Ben, Peyton Manning, and Tom Brady account for every super bowl visit from the AFC with the exception of 1 lone Joe Flacco year going back to 2003.  Think about that 15 of the last 16 super bowl participants are because the teams had all time great qbs.

Then we’ll have to agree to disagree. Free agency destination is such a tiny aspect of it all. Every team has upsides and downsides. Let Cole Beasley tell you how the Bills facilities compare to the rest of the league. Or how fun it is to play in a stadium with a college atmosphere. In the end, more often than not free agents are going to either follow the money or go where they have the best chance to win a championship.

I’m not sure I’d characterize the USFL as semi-pro. Half the players in that league played in the NFL.

No one is apologizing for it. But they lost to the only two teams that are 0.500 or better. Until the beat a quality opponent none of us will know how good they truly are. Dallas, Baltimore, Patriots, and even the Steelers' games will be the real barometers....until the playoffs start

I understand.  It is better to lose to 1-7 team when the Eagles laid an egg to Falcons.

Free agency gets attractive when your team has already established a winning base and needs a few parts to get over the top

when the GM can ask a FA "are you ready to come over and win a title here?"

not quite there yet....

It wasn’t. That team had a very good defense ( better than the current edition) and a developing, but very conservative - even for the time- offense. They were a legit SB contender in the AFC, and would have hosted the AFCCG if not for an inexplicable late season road loss to a putrid Tampa Bay team.

that was the near perfect combo for the next 6 years, with that speedbump the next season.....

Sometimes I think a lot of folks on this board measure every game against the 1991 AFC Championship game. Like it's not a convincing win unless it's 51-3.

You're right on. I'm still trying to thaw out the beers that I smuggled into that game in my pockets.  That game was over before it started.  Raiders freaked out when they saw Bruce out for pregame warm up in a sleeveless T-shirt.  If people are measuring every game against that one, they should stop watching any games.  It's easy to see the areas needing improvement without trashing all of the coaches and players.

that was overrated, any team would have beaten the Raiders without Bo Jackson...

Well some of the concerns are real. But where I agree with you is for the negative ones that allow criticize every coaching or Allen mistake, that seem to expect perfection. Stop just watching highlights! Other teams and players make all sorts of mistakes too!

Exactly, and there's a world of difference between talking about where your footbll team needs to improve, and obsessing only on the negative as a defense mechanism to protect your feelings from being hurt if the team doesn't exceed your unrealistic expectations.

I for one am enjoying watching the improvements this season, and am looking forward to talking about the next steps to move forward even further in the off-season. You know, when it's the off-season.

I think there's a few too many people that are so used to taking about who the new coach should be and posting mock drafts this tine of year that they don't know what to do with themselves.

So much doom and gloom for a 6-2 team.  Enjoy it.  It has been 25 freaking years.  I watch a lot of other games.  Too many.  I then watch highlights of the games I miss during midnight feedings.  So I wanted to put some things in one thread game by game to show you that you can actually enjoy the success.

The Bills only beat the Jets 17-16.  Can you believe that?  If they were good like say the Cowboys they wouldn't have needed a 4th quarter come back to win.  Oh wait the Jets beat the Cowboys.

The Giants game was as complete a game as they played and dominated this one.  If you complained about this one you are a terrible person and you should feel bad.

The Bills needed a 4th quarter comeback at home to beat the sad sack Bengals.  If they were good like Seahawks that would never happen!  Oh wait Russel Wilson did just that and even landed on 21 points same as the Bills.

They can't hang with the Patriots!  Oh wait they held the Patriots to their lowest point total of the season?  Wait they played the closest game save for the Ravens winning of any team in the NFL?

The Bills offense is terrible if only they had a real qb like Matt Ryan they would have scored more than 14 points.  Oh wait the Falcons only scored 10 points against the Titans?

Can you believe the Bills only won by 10 against the Lolphins and were only up 3 late.  If only they were good like the Eagles they wouldn't struggle with these sad sack teams.  Oh wait the Eagles lost to the 1-7 Falcons?

Speaking of the Eagles, can you believe they ran for so many yards and put up 31 points against this defense?  If only they were as good as the Packers that would never happen.  Oh wait the Packers gave up 34 points and 176 rushing yards?  If they were a great defense like say the Patriots they would never give up over 200 yards rushing.  Oh wait that just happened to the Patriots?

Can you believe the Bills were only up 1 score in the 4th quarter agains the Redskins?  No I don't care that they won by 2 tds that isn't good enough.  If only they were as good as the 49ers they would have beat the doors off of them.  Oh wait they only won by 9?  How about if they were as hot as the Vikings?  oh wait they only won by 10?

point of this thread?  A win is a win.  Every team is talented in the NFL stacking ws is all that matters.  Stop trying to poo poo everything and realize that each game is a struggle no matter who you are.  The Patriots just lost by 17 to the same Ravens team that lost by 15 to the Browns who lost by 14 to the Patriots.  There is no need for the Bills to apologize for the schedule.  The Bills are 6-2.  The freaking Buffalo Bills are 6-2.  It is November 5th and not only are they still in contention, they are 1 loss outside of the division lead and tied for the 2nd best record in the conference.  Watch some other teams and realize none of them are perfect either.  Go Bills!!!

Excellent,  Rational post!  One of the best I've read!

Some fans are just wired different. I can't just "sit and enjoy." It isn't in my nature. I have to analyse - good or bad. I have to understand why. I watch most NFL games most weeks and I can't just sit and enjoy those either. Some people enjoy sport that way and that is fine. I can't I have to get under the skin of it. That is what I get my enjoyment from. Doesn't make me any less of a fan. I love that the Bills are 6-2. I hated the loss to the Eagles, really hated it. I hate the Eagles more than the Patriots. But I am not going to sit and passively make excuses for the Bills when they are bad. I am going to try and work our why and call it how I see it.

I find a big difference between analyzing as as mechanism to identify strengths and weaknesses with an eye towards discussing solutions, and analyzing in order to place blame and exact punish as a form of satisfaction. Love reading people's takes when it's the former... The later is repellent like vomit.

You can't fix stupid ...

Josh Allen  10 TD's 7 INT's sucks in Dabol's offense

BUT these guys are good

Tainted Tom has 14 TD's 5 INT's

Lamar Jackson has 12 TD's 5 INT's

Jimmy Porn Star G  has 13 TD's 7 INT's

Jarred Goff has 11 TD's 7 INT's

PSSST Josh missed time because NE*** took him out of the game to stop a comeback

I think this should also be mentioned.

Allen - 247 rushing yards and 4 TD's

Brady - 3 rushing yards and 3 TD's

Jackson - 637 rushing yards and 5 TD's

Jimmy G - 32 rushing yards and 1 TD

Goff - 16 rushing yards and 2 TD's

Critical fans enjoy being 6-2, but also face the reality of how we got to 6-2 and how we look compared to other 6-2 or greater win teams.

We still want wins, we still want playoffs, and we still want Super Bowls.  We are simply pointing out glaring issues, or issues of concern with this team.

The point, as McDermott so oftenly points out, is growth.  Where do we need it?   What steps do we need to take to be more competitive with the upper echelon of the NFL?  What players that have been brought in aren't living up to expectations?  Can we even beat upper echelon teams or are these wins simply the product of facing disastrous organizations all season?

There are homers and there are critics.  This board seems to be overrun with a majority of homers, which is ?.  But try a to at least listen to some objectivity.

Im still over here trying to figure out how people were giving Allen A to A+ ratings for his weekly grade.   Like really?   160+ yards passing and a TD is an A to A+ in the NFL?

What is 300+ with no fumbles, 0 Ints, and 4tds?  A, Z+?

No we don't, we are all just Trolls who hate the Bills and secretly want everyone to be miserable with us, unlike the super fans that only see sunshine and rainbows and lollypops and gumdrops! The Bills are 6-2, doesn't matter how they got there or what they looked like doing it. There are plenty of excuses to go around if they don't win against good teams.....
