whatdrought Posted November 4, 2019 Posted November 4, 2019 Pay the man. He wants to be here, he loves it here, and he’s earned it. You can’t ever have too many guys who affect the QB. 10 1 3
Coach Tuesday Posted November 4, 2019 Posted November 4, 2019 On the 'Skins' first three-and-out, the third-down incompletion was caused by Oliver, who crushed the pocket from the middle. I was kind of surprised we didn't see him much for the rest of the game but it's not because he's playing badly - he's playing well. IMO Oliver played the run much better than Phillips did against the Eagles. 4
SoCal Deek Posted November 4, 2019 Posted November 4, 2019 With the selection of both Edmunds and Oliver the Bills front office appear to have bought into the line that the modern NFL was going to be played by a bunch of medium sized fast guys, much like the NBA. Unfortunately for them, size kills and the trenches are still dominated by really big guys. 3

I think the 18 snaps from Oliver was because skins didn’t pass much. Rookie in his first ever start, on the road and a defense looking vulnerable in run defense. I think we just wanted size. 1

Star is doing exactly what a big 1-tech DT does, and he does it pretty consistently. If you play 1-tech and are never, ever, ever moved off the ball by two 300lb offensive lineman, you are probably the best 1-tech to ever play the game. Some people need to temper their expectations. Star isn't a problem. 1

He said we don't need Oliver because of Harrison Phillips....well Phillips isn't playing. no *****, but when he was in he killed it. He plays his gap, bats balls and provides pressure. When he's back next year and we re-sign Jordan....Oliver is not needed. He'll end up being a situational rotation guy. Not a stud. He is way too undersized and gets man handled out there. 1 1

I think you honestly think you know more about McDermott's defense than McDermott. How much "tape" did you watch? Honestly answer this question. How much film, specifically breaking down Star have you watched? 1 1 2

We don't a rotation of talent. We got two Phillips....that's it! Amazing how you can judge and entire career of a player in his first 8 games. 2 minutes ago, Capco said: I was just about to say that. When I watch him in the pass rush he's getting pressure, just hasn' t had that extra split second to finish the job. Run game, he needs to continue working. Rather than focus on the negative of a rookie, I prefer to focus on the positive of what Phillips has brought. Oliver will have his place in the line as he goes forward. 3 1

I believe there were whispers that Oliver’s coaches at Houston thought his frame couldn’t handle much more playing weight. At his age, it's not about pure weight. It's more about strength and leverage. Ed has to learn leverage and I hope he can. This next offseason he will add a lot of strength. Then as he ages, the weight can come. Meanwhile universally any "watch the tape" guy on twitter or elsewhere, with any sort of actual football training or experience (Joe B. aside), has said Star is actually playing well.

With Harrison Phillips coming back, I will lose it if they don't pay Jordan Phillips because of the current investments on the DL. If I had to guess, Star and one of Murphy/Shaq aren't on this DL next year. We get Harry back to replace Star and go after Yannick Ngakue or draft a DE high in the Draft. Jerry Jabber Posted November 4, 2019 Posted November 4, 2019 Maybe McD should give Oliver some snaps at DE and see how he does. The Bills will have over $80M in cap space, so hopefully they'll be able to resign Phillips. 1
NewEra Posted November 4, 2019 Posted November 4, 2019 Ed will be fine. Jordan is currently the better player. He deserves the start imo. He’s gonna make at least 13 mill a year. If he keeps improving, he could make 17+
