I wouldn't be in a hurry to crown him. It's beginning to sound like Belichick is adjusting to the idea of coaching a few more years  (or at least until Brady's arm falls off). I also think about the mediocre records of all his assistants who went on to become head coaches. I keep thinking that he teaches them all they know. But he doesn't teach them all he knows.

There’s a Montgomery Burns-esque quality to that.  “I keep my friends close, but my competitors closer”.  ?

The context of the quote that I remember is from someone who tried to describe why Johnny Carson's successors and competitors weren't on par with him.

Nepotism rarely works, but this year their D has been spectacular, with no stars really to speak of. Gilmore is a top CB for sure, as much as I disliked his attitude here, but besides that it seems the coaching since last year's playoffs has been the best ever. I used to think Bellichick, while damn good, got lucky with Brady, but last year and so far in 2019, he is on another level. Yet yes, I do believe he also cheats LOL I wouldn't be surprised they somehow can know what the opposing offences will do by some cheating means.

And has been for weeks now. With their record producing results his confidence must be through the roof. I'm sure he'll be the Pats next head coach when his pops retires so we are looking at another 40+ more years of a Belichick on the Pats sideline. If his recent success means anything, he may be even more dominant than his dad ?

Wasn’t his plan always to turn the reigns of NE over to one of his sons?  It should be interesting to see what happened between Steve and McDaniels

So you think that BB Junior will be even better than his dad, huh? That's projecting quite a lot.

When BB retires the Pats will fall apart.

Imagine being lil' Joshy McDaniels, grinding away year after year for like 19 seasons now, stuck with the organization because he believes he's being groomed to take over once ol' Bill retires. But then Bill says, "You know what, I feel pretty good. I was gonna hang it up at 70 but I think I'll keep going." Then Bill hits 78 and says, "I'mma give the reins to my boy, Steve. Sorry, Josh."

Couldn't happen to a douchier douche than McDaniels.

There are people here who insist all New England does is cheat.

If theyre so good why do they have to cheat?

Tom Landry and Chuck Noll and Bill Walsh didn't have to.

I really don't know good they really are because they cheat heavily.

I've been wondering who would inherit his intellectual legacy. Now we know. He certainly hasn't shared much with his coordinators although it looks like Matt Patricia is making strides with Detroit

They are very, very good. To pretend otherwise is crazy talk.

this is true.

it is also true to acknowledge that a handful of teams have gifted the points of turnovers and balls have bounced their way more than once.

they are no doubt good. But I don’t think they’re unbreakable.

Ever see the movie "Being John Malkovich?" At a set time the elder Belichick will crawl through a low door and continue his life inside a new vessel.

He has so much cheating to do if he wants to out due his father someday. I see him being more tech savvy with his cheating. We will see drones and maybe a Patriots spy satellite launched.

Can someone who knows how to do so set up some kind of good poll to find out what percentage of people on this site think that the Patriots' dominance over the Bills and the NFL itself,  is due more to cheating or to other things such as coaching and their organization.

I would like to think, or hope, that most believe the latter is true.  But I would not bet that is the case.  There is almost no backup for those believing the first reason beyond 1-2 incidents and conspiracy theories, it seems.  To me, it seems like little kids, or adults, who lose at arm wrestling and always finding some fault, unfairness in their opponent's victory.

I would bet that most who believe that it is because of cheating are those same people who say: he twisted my wrist (lifted his elbow, started too soon, used his body, made me laugh, hypnotized me...) when they lose at arm wrestling.

As his offspring?

No lol. Calling plays. McDaniels started calling plays in 05 when Weiss left. O Brien in 09. BB usually has someone call plays for a year or two before promoting them to coordinator. My guess is he will also give Mayo a shot at calling plays as well.
