You've listed 5 Qbs above, none of which have sniffed a championship so why you picked them I have no idea. Here's what I know will happen, or at the very least have a very strong suspicion his will happen: Josh will one day throw for 300 yards. Let's say it's either this Sunday against the Browns or against the Fish the following week. Here's what you'll post: 1. Fine, he's done it once but truly good QBs do it consistently 2. Well, he did it but it was more due to the (pick one): poor DBs on the opposing team, poor pass rush by the opposing team, that the WRS bailed him out by making great catches, that it wasn't really a true 300 yard game because X number of yards came from short passes with long runs after the catch 3. And God forbid if they lose the same game, it will be that it doesn't matter that he threw for 300 yards because they lost (and therein completely going back on a month's worth of posts on the subject). I picked some contemporaries, none of them considered stars, with some having signed huge contracts & put together good careers. I included Goff, who looked like a bust his first 6 games under Jeff Fisher & lo & behold an innovative smart HC did it almost immediately under him (1st or second game). Trubisky may not be a great QB, buit did it quickly too. Bridgewater is now a serviceable back-up and had bad breaks and was considered a good prospect, did it quick too. You really have an issue with Deshawn Watson? We too know Lamar did it week 1 vs. Miami. Carr week 7, Prescott week 10 (great team went 13-3 a year after Romo was injured after a 3-1 start that lost 11 of next 12) I decided not to go on about the future HOF QB's playing today, but showing that everyone seems to do it within 10 games.... Remember too that no one thought anything of Tom Brady year 1 as he was a 6th round draft pick in a different game back then. Everyone I've pointed out does it approximately 3X's/yr...... The Bills are on to game 42 without one..... And I probably expect Allen will need 300 yards this weekend, because I do expect Cleveland to score 24 minimum. Edited November 5, 2019 by Billsfan1972
nucci Posted November 5, 2019 Posted November 5, 2019 I guess I'm one of the few that doesn't care. If you continue to win the stats will follow.

I wanted them to draft Watson, so no I have no problem with him. Your answer about Goff indicates why you're wrong about Allen. When Goff got a different OC, his performance shot up. I don't think Daboll is as horrible as some, I also don't think he's that great. The Bills model is to win with defense, running, and a B that makes throws in the short/intermediate range. I started a thread last week saying let Josh be Josh. You look at his performance in fourth quarters, where he is in the top tier of QBs in the league. He has more freedom and is more aggressive through the air. Let him play that way for all four quarters. By the way, you can score over 24 points without throwing for over 300 yards. Or did you not watch the game last week against the Eagles. Wentz threw for 172, and they destroyed us with the run game. Singletary is averaging somewhere around 6-7 yards per carry, I think? it would be coaching malpractice for us to not run the ball.

I LIKE ALLEN!!!!! I think he will be the star that the Bills drafted. I HATE DABOLL & MCD's coaching philosophy and inability to understand how important the QB & passing is in today's game. This is 100% not about Allen, it is about the COACHING!!!!!
Hebert19 Posted November 5, 2019 Posted November 5, 2019 Matt Stafford just had his 14th 400 yard game I believe. He also has 2 500 yard games. He hits 300 yards almost every week. How is that working out for him and the lions? 300 yards is a nice to have but means nothing in the grand scheme of winning.

Well I agree to a point. They could be more imaginative. But with your attitude the Eagles would have lost to us because they’d have thrown instead of run. we have a fundamental difference. I think you figure out for a specific game what will win and do that. You think they should just throw all the time and if they lose fine.

No the Bills were trailing & they easily pounded the ball on them (and converterd third downs). https://www.espn.com/nfl/playbyplay?gameId=401128037 Maybe if the Bills came out more in Rhythm then a different result.
apuszczalowski Posted November 5, 2019 Posted November 5, 2019 It's not essential that you have to throw for 300 yards to win a game, your defence could dominate the game and help out, or your running game might be on and carry the offence some weeks. But if you want to be the best, it's something you need to be able to show that you can do when needed and so far the Bills have not shown they can do it which will allow teams to focus more on stopping their run game or exploiting weaknesses in the defence. Teams may not do it every week, or even need to do it, but the good teams will do it. So far it's working for the Bills against weak opponents, but how much confidence are you going to have in them beating KC or Baltimore of they are only putting up 250 yards passing all game? Allen was drafted based on him having a strong arm, the deep ball was supposed to be a strength (along with his legs), what was the point in getting him if you want a game manager offence with a short throw pocket passer? Personally, I find the issue is coaching, McD is too old school trying to win with a dominant defence and a weak offence. He seems too 'nice' and doesn't have the 'step on the gas/throat' mentality that's needed. We have seen many games where it looks like Allen could go 400 for the game after the 1st half, then in the second the offence sputters and they just hold on enough to win hoping they can just kick the clock for 2 quarters and the defence dominate. There are many here who keep throwing out 'Who cares, Allen and the Bills are 6-2, wins are all that matters', yet they complain about Daboll and how bad he is, but he is also 6-2 and winning, just like Allen and the rest of the Bills. He is winning as the OC..... 1

Especially against better teams. Like I don't think we had a chance against the Eagles without a 300+ yard passing day. When I do win/loss record for just playoff games from 2015-2019, 300+ yard passers have a 17-11 record. A significantly higher win percentage of 60.7%. So yes the ability to hit those from time to time is important in reaching the upper echelon of the league. I don't think it will happen for Allen this year. If it doesn't happen next year it likely means he is never going to reach the upper echelon. He has to start hitting some deep throws. We did not have a chance against the Eagles because we did not run Singletary... JA does not throw 300 yard games because he only throws 20-25 passes a game....have to throw 34-38 to get to 300....not hit a long ball Edited November 5, 2019 by TH3
