Bangarang Posted October 20, 2019 Posted October 20, 2019 Allen went from relying too much on the deep stuff last year to not being able to throw it deep at all. So weird. 14 1

I think his issue with the short range stuff was not knowing how to take enough off the ball and footwork. He has improved the footwork and touch but now he seems to need to recalibrate his touch on the longer passes. I think he figures it out. 9

His short and intermediate range passes look so much better this year thus far which is huge. Once the deep stuff comes around again for him look out. 7 2

It looks, to me, that he has changed his throw. Now he puts it up higher. I assume to give the WR time to see it and run under it.
Gray Beard Posted October 20, 2019 Posted October 20, 2019 It must be tough to throw the deep ball during a game with the adrenaline going. In practice he can relax and throw with the right amount of strength behind it.

I also think he is being coached up to avoid turnovers and on deep balls putting some extra on it is a good way to do so. 2
eball Posted October 20, 2019 Posted October 20, 2019 He needs to figure it out, because despite that being an overall ugly game Josh played pretty well except for the deep shots. 1

Thought it was a game of 2 halves. Did not think he played well at all in the first half. Thought he was excellent 2nd half. I still think the Giants game is the closest we have got to a 4 Quarter performance from him. But when he is good he is like top 10 NFL Quarterback good. And it just makes him to confusing to work out! 2

BuffaloBillies Posted October 20, 2019 Posted October 20, 2019 Looks like a bad throwing angle to me on those deep ones... too much line drives. WRs can't get to it. Maybe 3-5% higher angle would give them a chance to run under it. 2

They have been so focused on working on the short range throws, he has not practiced many loooong passes yet this season. Edited October 20, 2019 by cd1 1

billsherd Posted October 20, 2019 Posted October 20, 2019 He can throw well when the WR is running a deep crosser and not when the WR is running in the straight line or along the sidelines. 1 1

So weird. Seriously head-scratching. But I'll take those misses on the bombs if he keeps throwing it the way he is all over the rest of the field.
Formerly Allan in MD Posted October 20, 2019 Posted October 20, 2019 Allen's deep throws are like unguided missiles. One has no idea where exactly they'll land. 1
