WideNine Posted October 5, 2019 Posted October 5, 2019 Hopefully, just a feel-good story to share with you all. Me and the fam recently moved out to Oregon (the wife's new job and my work let me do my thing from remote office). Was dreading the hassle of going to the DMV, but I have been driving the used Ford I bought before my road trip out here for the past month now with no plates and a flimsy piece of paper in the back window that I am sure expired a while ago.. Any way, stopped over at their DMV and got to talking to an older clerk about the weather and he said it was nothing like where he grew up. So I asked him where, and he said you've never heard of it, it's a tiny town off the Erie canal in WNY called Middleport. My jaw dropped, and so did his when I told him that I went to elementary school at Royalton-Hartland, the school that he apparently graduated from. The odds of that happening... After that, Morris and I were jawing away like long-lost cousins, talking about our Bills and Sabres and the rest of the tellers took up the slack and seemed to be getting a kick out of the whole thing. What a small world. I left thinking about how the Bills mafia is everywhere while humming "I've got friends in low places". Suffice to say that was the easiest DMV visit I have ever had. I left the building with a new set of plates, with fresh set of tabs, and registration on the way:) 8 4

I moved out to Portland about six years ago after living in western New York my whole life. I absolutely love it. There are DEFINITELY Bills fans here, as evidenced by the Bills Backers bar in Portland every Sunday, which is usually pretty packed. The biggest football related adjustment for me was learning to watch games at 10am instead of 1pm. Turns out it's much better this way! You can watch the early game and still have your whole day ahead of you, or watch both the early AND late games and STILL be done by 4. Pretty awesome. The lack of snow here relative to western New York is also pretty damned rad. And don't forget the world class coffee, beer, and legal cannabis, if you're into those sorts of things. Whereabouts in Oregon are you living? 1
ddaryl Posted October 5, 2019 Posted October 5, 2019 There's a lot of us transplants on the west coast. I'm just north of Seattle 1 1
nemhoff Posted October 5, 2019 Posted October 5, 2019 Moved from the Cuse to Portland 18 years ago. Love PDX and Oregon 1
njbuff Posted October 5, 2019 Posted October 5, 2019 There will be a ton of Bills fans in Tennessee tomorrow. Hopefully the Bills are playing really well and their voices are heard. ?

I'll get out there especially for the playoffs that we WILL be in this year. Edited October 5, 2019 by WideNine
SF Bills Fan Posted October 5, 2019 Posted October 5, 2019 I just moved to Austin, Texas and the first guy I met in my neighborhood on the first day is a Bills fan. 3 1
BringMetheHeadofLeonLett Posted October 5, 2019 Posted October 5, 2019 If you're in the Portland are, the Cheerful Bullpen is the place to be. ALL screens are Bills! 2

Not the biggest/grandest place you've ever seen, but there's a big and loyal crew that goes there, and they do the Shout song after TDs, wings and beef on weck, Labatt's (which is not too common to see in most bars on the west coast), Bills gear raffles, etc...Plenty of TVs and even some out back in an outdoor area if the weather is nice. Awesome! Definitely feeling a bit more like home out here, and feeling better about this move. Got to roll as the wife is giving me the stink-eye. We are hosting a girl that my daughter befriended at the school and her parents want to give us the sniff-test. I can respect that, but our place needs some TLC - we are only quasi-unpacked....just looks like most of our boxes exploded where they landed. 1
NickelCity Posted October 5, 2019 Posted October 5, 2019 PNW is great. I'm in Seattle and there a bunch of bills fans here. Love Portland too.

If you don't want to trek to Portland for 10 am games try Aces in Lincoln City. It is affiliated with the casino so the food is decent and they have all the NFL games. The couple times I went there last year there were about 5-6 regular Bills fans there. Plenty of parking as well. Also not sure if Szabo's in Newport has all the games on Sunday but it is a pretty comfortable bar with decent food. They do have a lot of tvs with games on. Edit: PS - Don't drink and drive on HWY 101. They will take your vehicle in Lincoln County (and your new plates?) Edited October 5, 2019 by Uncle Joe 1 1
OldTimeAFLGuy Posted October 5, 2019 Posted October 5, 2019 (edited) ...they're everywhere...our own renowned Gunner Bill is on the other side of the pond and a pretty damn astute football guy.. Edited October 5, 2019 by OldTimeAFLGuy
Peace Frog Posted October 5, 2019 Posted October 5, 2019 (edited) I'm in the PDX/Vancouver area. I moved to Camas back in '06 and love it out here. Also, they don't have Buffalo fish frys out here (obviously) but the best halibut fish & chips AND best clam chowder I've found is at The Original Halibuts in north Portland. I left the building with a new set of plates, with fresh set of tabs, and registration on the way:) So about a week ago I was on a Port wine tour in (where else?) Porto, Portugal. Guide had us stroll through a covered market on the way to our first tasting. What do I see coming towards me, but a guy in a well-worn grey t-shirt emblazoned with the Standing Buffalo. I yelled “Go Bills!” He yelled “SHOUT!”. We high fives and kept going in opposite directions. Rest of the tour was like “Whaaaaat just happened?” 1
CLTbills Posted October 5, 2019 Posted October 5, 2019 No doubt, man. There are at least six houses (six that I know of) in my neighborhood that are Bills fans, including a guy 4 houses down from me who’s from Rochester. Bills Mafia certainly knows how to represent everywhere
Marv's Neighbor Posted October 6, 2019 Posted October 6, 2019 All very true. Having lived in: N Virginia, Chicago, Houston and Seattle, over 35 years, and the Richmond area since 2004, I know there are BILLS bars and fans to visit them, everywhere. I left BUF in 1970 because of my job. Only get back for weddings and funerals. Sad to say, as time goes by, the funerals have surpassed the weddings.
