2 things I would add in here...

  1. Regardless of whether or not passes were catchable or not, there is one clear point...and that is Zay and Allen have no chemistry.  Since Allen returned last year against Jax, they have played 10 games together and Zay has 33 yards or less in 7 of them while guys like Foster and Brown have multiple 100 yard games.
  2. Zay himself said after practice in an interview during one of our camps this year that Josh pulled him aside and said he didn't like how he was running his routes and told him what he wanted him to do.  So we already know that Allen has had to talk to Zay about his route running this off season.

For whatever reason, Allen and Zay just aren't clicking on the field.  To be fair, Foster and McKenzie have done even less, although at least McKenzie did score a TD on one of his 3 catches.

Bottom line:  Allen needs more help from his WR's, he cant just keep relying on two small WR's only.

all that’s fair and I suspect the chemistry thing is the real underlying problem. At this point I am all for shipping Jones off as well (albeit not for the same reasons many other people want him gone); I am primarily worried about who takes his place for those 75-80% of snaps Zay currently takes.

Just pointing it out. The breakup attempts are a separate issue from his supposed drops. Obviously all the receivers on the team better learn how to act as defenders, and quickly, given where some of these passes are headed once they leave Allen’s hand.

No doubt, Josh needs to clean up his act too. But like I said in another thread, Murph and Tasker were quoting/paraphrasing James Lofton on WGR yesterday, and how he always said it’s his job as a WR to turn into a DB on those bad throws to bail out his QB.

Just wondering out loud.  Could it be because he isnt gettin to where he should be? Others have more catchable passes?

I'd agree with you.   For three years, I've often thought that Jones just doesn't seem to be where the QB is expecting him to be...

Well the good news is that 7 rec for 69 yards through 4 games is not hard to replace :)

Honestly, I think the more plausible scenario is that ether Foster gets back to healthy and in good graces with the staff and starts taking those snaps, or they activate Duke.

Of course. When Lofton, Wood, Murphy all are calling him out publicly on it, and the coach basically confirms it after the game, he better take notice. If he doesn’t, he’ll definitely be benched, traded or cut. None of those things has happened yet of course, despite his apparent suckitude. In fact, he’s been the clear cut WR3 in terms of targets. I defer to whatever McDermott wants to do with him.

Knox’s involvement and targets need to increase too. I know he’s still green but there’s too much talent there.

Bye Zay. Would be great to get something for him, but I don’t see it being the case unless he’s a “throw-in” on a deal that was going to happen anyway.

Bills could do better at Zay's spot, but they could do worse too.  A trade would be good for me at this point.  I'm tired of folks seeing ghosts.  Whatever he does will be wrong or exaggerated for effect.  I'm ready for a new whipping post. This one is played out like color rush jerseys.

No way, he is one of the worst receivers in the league. It is not being imagined.

Yes, couldn't agree more

Really should have traded him before the season because he would have possibly fetched a 4th. Reclamation project and all that BS. Trade him NOW? You talk about selling low. I think the fact that he was a McDermott(maybe Beane) guy factored into their hope that he'd turn the corner.

Sweeney has been an after thought since his nice start. like to see him running some serious routes as well

I think Zay makes sense in a player for player trade like the Hughes deal. Let's move him for some other team's disappointing prospect and see if we can get anything out of them.

likely going to cut him if he cannot turn it around next weekend.

like i have said too often, it just has not clicked for him. seems to be collecting a check

Might look something like the Ronald Darby deal for a 3rd rounder and Jordan Matthews- Zay being Matthews. Darby didn't fit the big picture plan for the Bills so we got a draft pick to help us build and a throw-in type in Matthews to possibly help a bit right away. Might be able to work something similar for AJ Green or Sanders or whoever.
