again, not arguing it’s clean, or a good hit but I think a tougher spot than some acknowledged in a split second with a lot of moving pieces and a goal of ending forward progress

In general I agree with you that a lot of these hits the guys start to make the tackle and then the ball carrier lowers his head which makes it worse than it could have been. Like you, I would like to see it again. But when I watched the replay originally, not the live hit, it looked to me like he saw a Josh stopped and lowered his head to go right for Josh's.

The sad thing is it completely impacted the outcome of the game. With all the intercepts, penalties, bad calls, McD bad challenge etc. we had the ball on the NE 40 yard line. We were dominating the second half, should have been 15 yards added so we have the ball inside the 30. Also, Barkley had other chances with good field position, I gotta feel Josh would have pushed one over the line in the fourth quarter!

There is absolutely no question about that, although I believe his intent was to injure.  Did you see his immediate reaction?  POS player and team.

I have to agree. Was feeling it with JA in there, especially if they got around the goal line. With Barkley, it was hoping against hope.

If that hit isn't the definition of targeting then the NFL isn't serious about player safety. Which we all cynically believe the case to be.

Not sure why anyone wants to make excuses for this.  Sorry, but he led with his helmet and it was very intentional.

......and to me he should be fined and suspended. You’d get a lifetime ban for doing that to Brady. That was clearly done with intent, IMO.

Pretty sure it would be an ejection and a game check fine if that was TB. Maybe even a suspension.

 I think he intentionally tried to go helmet to helmet. But... that said... his reaction to Josh being down could have easily been the same whether he did or didn't try to hurt him. I don't think that shows anything. I do think he tried to take off Josh's head.

but he also just stopped a 6’5 and 240 lbs horse dead in his tracks. I think quite a few guys have that reaction after a massive hit that they “win” in a major moment. 

 

I dont think there was much thought beyond “stop that dude” and “hell yea I stopped that dude”

Running off means nothing other than right at that moment he was alert. He did lose consciousness and therefore did have a concussion and other  additional things will define the severity of it. Many times patients are initially ok only to later suffer post  concussion syndrome with symptoms like headaches , nausea , impaired cognitive function, mood lability etc.  

 I would be surprised if he clears the post concussion protocols in as little as a week after a concussion / tbi with loss of consciousness that was about 1-2 min roughly. It is a staged process to return with increasing physical challenges that have to be performed with no return of any symptoms associated with the increased physical exercise demands, with additional cognitive testing as well. If any symptoms are precipitated by increased levels of exertion, things are put  on hold to minimize risk of worsening outcomes with second traumatic head injuries.   Since we are dealing with a literal bruise to the brain, it is easy to see how unpredictable it becomes regarding prognosis, just like you have seen as your own bruises ( a rough analogy ) heal at variable rates.   I bet with a bye after Tennessee, they will be very conservative just like they have been with Singletary and I would guess Josh returns after the bye.   It’s not impossible for him to make it in a week since he is healthy with no past concussion episodes / history  I am aware of , but I think the odds are not in his favor to make it back for the Titans. Will know a lot more about  his symptoms or lack of them in the next 24-48 hours. Will see tho, I’ve learned never to say never in medicine a long long time ago!
