Which is partly because he tries so hard to extend everything, which means he is normally a long way behind the sticks by the time he bails on a play. 1
DuckyBoys Posted September 22, 2019 Posted September 22, 2019 I'd give him a B I didnt like the careless fumble, the pick backpedaling, the across his body completion to Sweeney or the near pick in the deep post with the safety waiting on the deep shot to Foster. I did like his poise on the final drive. The numerous should be sacks he turned into positive yardage. Good game for the young man. Still seeing some growth week to week and his demeanor seems even keeled. Still so so early in his career 2

Yup. I hate to say it but the whole, "falling backwards, stiff-arm throw" seems to be a signature play of Allen. Seen it too many times.

I think there was one like that in the first quarter that was complete to Brown for a first down. He was going backward toward the sideline and threw it all arm.

YattaOkasan Posted September 22, 2019 Posted September 22, 2019 Week 1 B- Week 2 B+ Week 3 B- been very consistent honestly. Overall more pressure then I liked today (party josh holding the ball). Off the pressure I think teams are keying on his roll outs to his right. He has the two intentional groundings and pick that way (also several great plays too). Still lot of miscues from the offense that are leaving points on the board. I think they get it sorted (probably not by next week) and that will be a great day. Biggest worry still has to be how this offense handles blitzes from the defense. Still having some struggles. Either way great win and another 4 quarter drive from Allen to take the lead (more than TT ever had I think).

zow2 Posted September 22, 2019 Posted September 22, 2019 Josh sucked today. I’m sorry. He looked like Tyree Allen. In his first ever start, Daniel Jones looks better. But it’s one game and he will improve 1

Those low grades would have been right if they had lost 17-14. But they didn't. He drove them down the field for the winning TD when he was down to the last possession. Despite having pressure all day he threw a bunch of good balls and had one egregious mistake. 4

GreggTX Posted September 22, 2019 Posted September 22, 2019 I think that's fair, but Cincinnati's defense is underrated. They haven't played well this year up to today, but they finally got it going. I expect to see more good games from them. The Bengals aren't great, but they aren't all bad either. It was another ugly win. I'll take that any day we line up to play. A couple letdowns by the D, but overall, they played another solid game. 2
Pokebball Posted September 22, 2019 Posted September 22, 2019 I don't mind what I consider to be the harder grades on Josh's performance. It's what is needed to make him the best that he can be. And I think Josh is harder on himself than any of you. That's a good thing and is what makes him perfect for this team. The future is bright. 1

I like the kid but he had 4 pretty obvious mistakes. The pick was the one that cost him. Throwing the ball back across his body to Sweeney he got away with, throwing to Knox (I think) near the goal line into double coverage while being chased was another mistake, and not getting down earlier in the fumble. He got away with the last 3. He’s making excellent progress and his 4th quarter heroics are great, he just has the smarter sometimes. 1

If the O line doesn't take that next step vs. a solid pass rush this team might not make the playoffs. In my opinion, that's the most critical factor to address on offense. You don't want Josh scrambling, find him another second or two of protection.

Take the sack. Throw the intentional grounding. I don’t care which, DON’T attempt hero ball up 14-0. Exactly, love the kid, but he needs to get a lot smarter on those situations. Eat the ball and live to fight another fight.
