We all come with a bias on these message boards of being Bills fans... some loved him when drafted, some hated, and most had their doubts... but out of curiosity - what would need to happen for you to finally sit back and be like "alright, Josh Allen is the franchise"

My answer: eliminate head scratching turn overs, and at a minimum split the season series with the Pats but be relevant in both games

If he plays consistently like he did vs the Giants (and for spells vs the Jets) then I am sold that Josh Allen is the franchise. That is all he has to do. Keep playing like that. Smart, decisive, accurate and chain moving.

I would say a few things would show me.

4000 yds would be ideal, but not required

30TD’s total: i include rushing TD’s bc he seems to strongly prefer to trust his legs in the red zone (I think he’s nervous to make mistakes in a limited field. He’s got 4 total touchdowns right now, which works out to 32 over an entire season.

My biggest thing would be...

11-5 record: If he’s really “the one” and he stays healthy all year, they should be 11-5.

2 wins currently (both on the road).

3 games left against Miami and the Jets.

games against Denver, Cincinnati, and Washington all at home.

Pittsburgh/Cleveland look like a lot more winnable games now than they did to begin the season.

AFC is going through a TON of change right now (Luck retiring, Roethlisberger hurt, Foles out & Jags tire fire).

Generally speaking, beat the Pats week 4. He does that and the media immediately makes him a top AFC QB over night. They're itching to do so already.

And honestly I'm pretty much right there too. If he beats the Pats, or hell even the Browns or Ravens, just some team that's not terrible, and I'll anoint him. I'm ready, I might even do it after this week. I've been consuming the koolaid for months, Allen is special.

Oh you said all fanhood aside. Impossible.

He has too have a strong game against the Patriots. Would be great if his performance led to a win. He has to just continue to develop and show that he can make the right game time decisions.

The kid is growing right before our eyes and is doing everything right. He just can't get complacent or relax in his preparation.

Just stay grounded and hungry Josh. Keep focused and never be satisfied with your current success.

Personally I wasn't worried about Josh Allen immediately being "the one". I had the learn to crawl before you walk expectations.

After watching so many excellent defensive efforts being squandered by a mostly putrid 3 and out offence that couldn't sustain drives, I was locked into anything is better than nothing mentality.

If your defense is balling the team should win games. That is my expectation. Not letting penalties stall drives and come from behind victories also cement that status of being "the one" for me. Win when you should and overcome adversity winning when maybe you shouldn't.

Josh Allen already knows that beating the Patriots is his next obstacle to success. Once that is achieved, the confidence goes up, decision making improves, statistics improve, and the Bills will become a perennial play off threat. This stuff takes care of itself.

My answer and it may not be popular: Josh needs to have a good year 3. A single year, and I hope he has it, is a great start, but we have to see him return next year in the correct workmen type frame of mind. Plus, teams will be taking away what they see from the tape they have, and he will have to show he can adjust. Anyways, until he has 2 reasonably good seasons, I wont be ready to anoint him. But he's playing well now, and I'm more than happy to enjoy the ride.

  1. Be the De facto team leader.
  2. make the playoffs 2 years in a row.
  3. Pretty much keep doing what he's been doing this year resulting in a double digits win total
  4. win a playoff game of two preferably at home.
