Situations where you literally trade away the pick used on perhaps the NFL MVP of the next generation when you desperately needed a player at that position are so incredibly rare that yeah.........you can expect to hear about it for a while.

I mean the Colts traded away Elway but that's because he refused to sign with them.    Same with the Chargers and Eli Manning.    Mahomes has started out far better than both of those guys.   Just doing it by mistake is an astounding error that you at least should find gallows humor in if nothing else.

But on the plus side..............the "we traded up for JP Losman when we could have used that pick we traded on Aaron Rodgers the next year" story is rendered entirely obscure by comparison.

Two things:

1.) The "Bills should have taken Mahomes" comment completely ignores the context of the situation. The Bills had a brand new head coach. They knew Doug Whaley was a lame duck. The new head coach didn't want the lame duck GM making a pick of such high consequence. Why base the selection of a franchise QB -- a decision which, if it misfires, can sink a coach's tenure with a team before it even begins -- on the scouting work of a GM/staff that you're about to fire? It also ignores the fact that Mahomes was no sure thing. People can look back now with 20/20 hindsight and say that selecting Mahomes there should've been a no-brainer for the Bills, but go back and read the pre-draft profile on Mahomes and what people were saying about him and, again, his selection was no sure thing. Hell, the Bears traded up in the draft, giving up significant ammo in the process, to draft MITCHELL TRUBISKY over Mahomes. Not one single analyst or "expert" anywhere questioned it or thought they should have taken Mahomes instead.

2.) In spite of everything I just said, the fact is this: Constantly repeating the Mahomes line is the definition of beating a dead horse. We all know what went down. We all know how good Mahomes is. We all know he was taken with the Bills' original 1st round pick slot. ENOUGH ALREADY! How long are you people going to repeat yourselves about this? Another five years? Ten? Two more decades? Are you gonna be talking about it on your deathbed? So much happens every week in the NFL and so much exciting stuff is happening with the Bills RIGHT NOW, that to choose "We could have had Mahomes" as your talking point is just lazy, repetitive, irritating, pessimistic drivel. Why not concentrate on some of the many good young players that are actually on the Bills roster? Why not concentrate on the fact that it looks like the Bills may have taken a franchise QB of their own? Why continue to beat the dead horse and ignore the context and fixate on the same damn fact over and over and over again?! It just reeks of grasping at straws to be pessimistic. Enough. Get a life.

Most of the people here are Bills fans, but if you are like me and read these forums or scroll Twitter during the week (especially on game days), then there are repetitive comments that likely get on your nerves made by Bills fans.

The past two weeks, I’ve noticed a lot of these patterns.  How about you?

”We should have never gotten rid of....”

There’s a bit of revisionist history with a lot of Bills fans.  Anytime an ex-player has a good (or even marginally good moment), some fans will pine for a former player, without considering any context and in some cases...logic.  Last year there were people who were legitimately lamenting the loss of Nick O’Leary, Seantrell Henderson, and Tyrod Taylor.  Last week everyone was upset that the Bills moved on from Shady because he ran for 81 yards.  This week he was back to his usual 2 yards a carry.  Ditto for Sammy.  I’m sure if Logan Thomas makes a catch, someone will be like “We never should have gotten rid of Logan Thomas!”

”We should trade for __________”

Anytime there is a big name player looking for a trade.  Fans immediately want the Bills to make a move - no matter how illogical the trade might be.  There were a lot of people who would have been happy to see the Bills trade high draft picks for Jadaveon Clowney who is a 1 year rental.  How many people want a trade for Melvin Gordon, again a 1 year rental, who is going to want a phat contract.  Not gonna happen.  Yet I see a lot of comments for people who want and legitimately think the Bills should trade for Gordon.

“You’re not a true fan if you criticize the Bills.”

I belong to a Bills Facebook group where many members scolded other for posting previous comments about how bad the Bills were playing.  LOL.  To some Bills fans any criticism is off base.  I don’t agree with that

You're an idiot :D

1. Completely ignores the context?  Does desperately needing a QB for 20 years not count as part of the context?   That's the most important part of the context.

2. Beating a dead horse is bringing up something that is no longer relevant to the parties involved.     This has just begun to become relevant.   Great QB's usually play for a while.    I've said it before but my hope is that the Bills just end up more successful on the field.   That's the only way it becomes irrelevant.

Even if McBeane flame out in a season or two The Pegs will then have to own it because it creates "context" on their decision making.    It just is what it is.    That's life sometimes you make organizational mistakes and have to live with them.   They only "hang over your head" if you let it bother you.........which clearly it does.   Insisting you not hear about it is what is unproductive.   Learn from your mistakes and be motivated by them.    The Pegs and McD dropped the ball by d*cking around with Whaley to try to keep him from whatever it is they were worried about him doing if he was let go.   Should have hired Beane.    I have confidence that they would have chosen Mahomes with that pick if they actually did what they were supposed to.  I've liked their drafts more than any regime since I've been evaluating draft eligible players for myself in the late 80's.

"Needing a QB for 20 years" actually has NOTHING to do with Sean McDermott. And to pretend that he was just supposed to magically be able to scout and select a QB with, as I mentioned, a walking dead GM and scouting staff is wishful and unrealistic thinking. Also, firing a GM and an entire scouting staff, getting a new GM and scouting staff in the door, and having them scout an entire draft class in three months and make a decision as difficult and consequential as selecting a franchise QB is ALSO unrealistic and wishful thinking. THAT is what I mean by context.

Please, though, keep talking about Mahomes for the next decade. It's a fresh and interesting topic every time. ?

- Look what <insert national media name> said about the Bills!!!

- The refs are screwing us again!(this happens more after a loss).

- Ralph was a great owner(revisionist history).

- Any post referencing “process”.

- Brady is a system QB. He’s just not that good.

love the process and the refs are screwing us (and them too)

The vast majority of this board feels the same as the bolded text...

This^. I don’t watch games with rose colored glasses. Mistakes have been and are still being made; nature of the beast. Even Belichick calls out his teams’ miscues. This is an opinion board and full of them, pure and simple. Just because I don’t agree with the herd doesn’t make me wrong. Yesterday Josh threw back across his body into no man’s land and was bailed out by a penalty, dove instead of sliding for the first down and as Denzel said in Remember the Titans, “Sunshine, you can throw it a mile but you can’t pitch it three feet.” His speed ball is a blessing and a curse. Great pitchers know how to take a little off when needed. Is he making strides? Yes. Is he still doing bonehead things? Yes.

And another thing..... never mind the above is already going to inflame some. Watch.

My favorite vorpma quote after you were throwing shade on one of his takes!

Then watching you ? all his posts after you found out he's the boss.    Priceless!

Still don't know who SDS is; but if it gives you thrills, have it.  You seem easily amused yet priceless.

1) Whose fault was it that they had a lame duck GM??

2) And yet almost every new regime starts with a new GM and new HC and they very often pick a QB first!...........and they don't always fire all of the scouts.    You don't seem to even know how the system works but you are insistent that I abide your perception of context.
