Spun Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 The comcast/time warner bid would leave little room for a regional hq in a place like buffalo. A cablevision bid might open up more possibilities for regional headquarters and offices... Time Warner for example has two regional hubs in NC and employs about 2000 folks in the state--Cablevision would need that type of operation somewhere in the new markets it would obtain if it took over Adelphia's. It would be more than just the truck roll folks probably include their marketing, finance, hr and other business functions. 298992 Then I will pull for Cablevision. I know it seems like an impossible dream but an economically healthy Buffalo could mean a very different and hopefully better Buffalo. On that note Cablevision is up: http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=CVC&d=t

The new HealthNow HQ down by the old gasworks (which will be a large building from the sound of it), the Bass Pro and a number of other projects that are actually going to happen. The city is lucky the state didn't take that cash away.
plenzmd1 Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 I do not like this idea as I would need to change my will, and I am not kidding. As of now, my ashes are to be spread around the Ralph at the first Miami home game after my death. Just do not think it would be the same if they were not playing in the the temple of football that I grew up with.

We have a $8 million dollar private sector fund in Raleigh to attract businesses. The banks, energy company, service firms who benefit from job growth contributed. The state usually quadruple matches that fund. The county in this case instead of contributing money could contribute tax abbatement and infrastructre upgrades from bonded funds. Anyway--I think there are probably pockets of money. On another note, this has been a really good thread. I have learned a lot about WNY politics and stadium design. I particularly like the Peace Bridge stadium with the Canadian arts, culture and interpretative dance pavillion....
Sound_n_Fury Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Anyway--I think there are probably pockets of money. 299093 And the state and local politicians already have their hands in them, up to their elbows! Seriously, there's no way the State of New York is going to fork over more than a token amount of money for a new stadium. This is not Manhattan we're talking about. And unfortunately, as long as Buffalo's population continues to decline, the private money will look for opportunies elsewhere.
Hammered a Lot Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Yet they're holding a SB in DetRIOT. And they also are hosting the 2005 MLB Allstar game. DetROIT sports is hot this year.
Sen. John Blutarsky Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Hey, why not ask right? Cause what we really need is to be CLOSER to the lake :-) If they build a dome I'm going to jump over the Falls. You see that'd be the Buffalo answer to this. They'll get a stadium and botch it so many times over that we end up hating the whole thing, see also the Lancaster Dome. Any lawmaker who proposes a dome gets flogged. If possible I'd like to install a snow MAKING maching at any new stadium. screw the waterfall, make a 4 foot drift on the 5o yard line :-)
The Warden Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Green Goo FieldPlant some grass seed on the former Bethlehem Steel site. Put 20,000 bleacher seats surrounding the field. Make sure it is placed right above the remnants of the Manhattan Project still buried underground. Now THAT would be a home field advantage. 298958 The Manhattan Project remnants are in Lewiston
The Warden Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Are they? Details please.. 298976 They held a SB once in Michigan - sure it was in a dome but it was still snowing outside and some of the team buses were running quite a bit behind schedule ...... http://football.about.com/cs/superbowl/a/bl_superbowl16.htm
BILLS02138 Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 I'm not in favor of a downtown Buffalo casino or any other place except maybe another one in Niagara Falls USA... but... it looks like indians will get their way and take over the Convention Center in downtown Buffalo. That being the case - why don't we steal a page from the Jets play book and build a retractable stadium/convention center on the waterfront? Just an idea...

NYState pays $300 million NY City pays $300million Buffalo has how much $$$to kick in. The Jets are paying ? the rest of the $ 1.9 billion. The Bills would kick in how much for a new stadium???
