I pegged Buffalo as my Cinderella team in April and picked the Bills to make the playoffs in August. And their effort on Sunday undoubtedly bolstered my feelings. The toughness, togetherness and talent was on display, as the Bills erased a 16-0 third-quarter deficit to beat the rival Jets on the road. Don't be surprised. This is what the Bills are under Sean McDermott. This is what to expect from this defense late in games. This is what to expect from the Josh Allen-John Brown connection. I'm calling for a 4-0 Bills start, which will include a win over the Patriots I absolutely love Schein's prediction here. If we do start off 4-0, to include a win over the Pats, there will be no stopping this team. He mentions the togetherness of this team, and it just reminds of our team of the 90s. That's why we were so successful back then. The team of the 90s were extremely close and they all had each other's backs. If this team can resemble that same togetherness, we will definitely have success for years to come. Edited September 10, 2019 by Circlethewagon8404 link provided 7 7 1
Codyny13 Posted September 10, 2019 Posted September 10, 2019 Forgive me, as I was a child in the 90’s, and I see how Thurman, Jim, Bruce and co are all still friends now a days, but weren’t the Bills teams of the era known as the “bickering Bills.” Some of you guys that were actually really following the team at the time have any input on this? 5
H2o Posted September 10, 2019 Posted September 10, 2019 I'm taking this season one week at a time this year. I always try to look ahead and over the last 20 years it has mainly been disappointment. Let's go back to NJ this week and try to get to 2-0 against the Giants. I too have said I felt this team was special, that we would make the playoffs, and actually win a playoff game this year. Now that the season is on I'm not saying a word except let's take care of this week and worry about the next when it gets here. 5 1 1

They were known as that, but that's how siblings are. They bicker and argue, but at the end of the day, they had each other's backs. They are still friends now and they've talked about that. 1
Chris66 Posted September 10, 2019 Posted September 10, 2019 If the Bills play the Pats like they did against the Jets they will get blown out. 3 1 1

The Reader's Digest verision is that being an up and coming team is different than being one with high expectations. When you are the plucky underdog, being a good team mate is pretty easy. Once success comes and expectations rise so does a host of potentially negative tendencies. Egos, pointing fingers, jealousy over the media coverage, who gets paid, who gets blamed when the team falls short, etc. I can't really imagine those teams combined with the age of social media. FTR, if the Jets had a competent kicker -- he missed a FG in the first half -- they would have won the game 19-17. 1

Bickering Bills was more of the late 80’s as all the personalities came together and learned how to coexist with each other. Once they jelled it turned into the great teams of the 90’s. There’s no League MVP Thurman, no DPOY in Bruce, no Andre or Lofton, no Hanson or Bennett. I don’t see a Wolford here either. I get what you’re saying, but that group was a collection of I, Me, Mine guys, with a dorm monitor as HC. That’s not what’s going on here. At all. 7 3

The bickering was really in the late 80s portion of the team. Coaches were fighting, Kelly called out "House" Ballard for missing a block that led to a shoulder injury. Kelly later called out Ronnie Harmon's pass catching ability. Thurman then went on the Darryl Tally Show and called out Kelly for calling out other players. A few days later Kelly & Thurman had a joint press conference with both apologizing for calling out teammates. After all that they just seemed click together and the rest is history. Below are some articles about it all. https://www.upi.com/Archives/1989/10/10/Kelly-says-Ballard-should-shoulder-the-blame/2687623995200/ https://www.upi.com/Archives/1989/10/24/Bills-assistant-coaches-in-fist-fight/6372625204800/ https://www.buffalorumblings.com/2011/6/20/2228738/bickering-bills https://oklahoman.com/article/2298955/bills-thomas-kelly-apologize-for-feud
krf139 Posted September 10, 2019 Posted September 10, 2019 I swear, Pegula must have some sort of side deal with this guy to go nuts about the Bills.
dayman Posted September 10, 2019 Posted September 10, 2019 LOL a win over the Pats. We will not beat the Pats this year.

Ronnie Harmon was the leading black racist. I once heard a story where he was passing a ball around for black players to sign and wouldn't let Andre Reed sign it because he's bi-racial. On the white side, Fred Smerlas is a redneck A-hole, even though he's from Massachusetts. Both those players were gone when the Super Bowl teams thrived. They were both locker room cancers & were told to hit the road. 1
