ExiledInIllinois Posted September 9, 2019 Posted September 9, 2019 How is given $$$$, stolen? Plead... "I am indifferent to money." "I keep no track of it." "Don't give it to me, I won't spend it." Yeah, like that will float. Now... Get blood out of a stone... Here is your camper back. LoL... Sleazy bank needs to eat it. I want to give a someone $5 and mistake the $50 spot in my wallet... The mistake is on me. Think I am asking for the fitty back? Banks sure got it stacked against the people... Now they don't even eat their own mistakes. Large amounts should be double checked.
Gugny Posted September 9, 2019 Posted September 9, 2019 I balance my checkbook at least 3 times/week. I've been hacked a few times and have learned that the sooner you see something wrong/report it, the better. If I ever saw a $120,000 uptick in my account, the first thing I'd do would be to call the bank. This couple new that money wasn't theirs. They've been charged accordingly and should be prosecuted/ordered to return the money. 3 1

All on cellphone app. Get text alerts, etc... 20 years ago, $2k was added to, Direct Deposited to our account. Of course I did nothing... Let it sit there for a month. They caught it and took it out. ExiledInIllinois Posted September 9, 2019 Posted September 9, 2019 And I beg to differ. NOT unrealistic. There was a simplier time... When errors wouldn't have been caught, and when the audit happened, probably couldn't be traced. Banks now have technology to NOT be accountable for their mistakes. Given, gifts are not "stolen."
Saxum Posted September 9, 2019 Posted September 9, 2019 I had a bank error which I reported and they repeatedly told me that there was no error, that I withdrew the money. I gave them signed statement that I was at work with computer verification that I was active at time of withdraw. They still claimed it was my withdraw. I emptied my bank account and transferred it another bank with just minimum amount and signed and notarized instructions stating that no electronic transactions were allowed for my account. Person showed up at bank asking why he could not access "his" account and when cashier said he would talk to manager to find out why manager saw was not same person who gave notarized instructions and told cashier "Tell customer computer error, we are fixing issue." In meantime he called police and said they had a potential robber there who could become violent. Two plain clothes police came in and the cashier said "Issue is resolved." when he walked to front of line plain clothes police put him in cuffs. I got my money back plus interest (wow, less than a dollar) and an apology. I asked manager if for inconvenience would they waive any bank fees and he said "Of course". So I told him that I was closing account and glad they are waiving fee for closing account early. He said "that is not what I meant" but allowed it anyways. 1

If I find money on the street, it's mine. Unless it's something like $120,000. I'd go to the police if I found that much money.

He turned it in to security and they told him if no one claimed it within two weeks, he could have it. Two weeks later we had a really nice lunch on someone we never met. Note the reason he turned it in was the same building had social service, DAs Office, etc. so even though it was only $100, it could have been someone’s last $100. If I was down to my last $100, I Darn well wouldn't lose it. I found $50 in a bank envelope in front of my house once, wife put an add in paper stating name the bank and the amount to claim it. All kinds called and asked how much it was . We ended up spending it I think it was one of the trash haulers. Oh, and while doing Highway cleanup with the Boy Scouts last year, three of found $20 each. Edited September 9, 2019 by Gary M

Gray Beard Posted September 9, 2019 Posted September 9, 2019 My wife was over paid for several weeks because of a clerical error at work. They let her pay it back over the same time period that she received the extra pay. I thought that was decent of them. If I found $120K in my account, I would tell the bank. If they don’t fix it, I would hold off using it for quite a while. I would also make sure I could liquify some assets to pay it back. I am financially able to do that, but not everybody else can say that. I would bet that the people in this story who blew the money on toys don’t have assets they could easily liquify to pay it back, other than the toys they bought with the money. Reminds me me of those stories of people who win the lottery and are broke within a few years.

I told her that if she's really that opposed to keeping it, she should just leave it on the ground.

Marv's Neighbor Posted September 9, 2019 Posted September 9, 2019 Why would anyone in Pennsylvania bank in Nigeria?

Bank is sure as hell going to figure out where $120k went. Plus, love how these morons spent the money. An RV? Gave away $15k to ‘friends’? 43 minutes ago, Gugny said: My son found a $20 bill in Manhattan while we were walking around. Picked it up and kept on movin'. In Manhattan, sure. My daughter found $100 on the sidewalk near our house a couple years ago. Despite temptation, I did the right Dad thing and we put a notice on the community website. Sure enough, it ended up belonging to the single lady right across the street. My daughter got $20 as a reward. Edited September 9, 2019 by KD in CA 1

row_33 Posted September 9, 2019 Posted September 9, 2019 watched a man pick up a shiny newly found $1 bill at a Jets game, that wasn't a fun time for him

Theft plain and simple. They obviously knew it wasn't their's. Two weeks ago I went to a Walmart self check out. When I looked down the bill exchange had a multiple bills hanging out of it. I didn't even touch it. I called over the attendant and she took it to the area manager. It was 5, $20's. The attendant said money is left on the machines quite often. A week later I was in again and asked her if someone collected the money. She didn't know as they hand it to the main office. If no one collects it, they eventually give it to charity. 1

I understand that. I know the law is the law. Probably why we are in the cultural & societal mess we are in... Why there is no accountability when people see the deck stacked as it is... Leads to even more corrupt attitudes. Just saying The law states a lot of things that are truly effed up 1
