Additionally, I am tired of all the "well, they'll get respect when they win" BS. This is an analysis of the teams and where they are at right now. Therefore, I absolutely can't buy any reasonable person looking at this team and saying, "yep, they'll finish one spot worse than last year...that's the way it looks now." "Well, the Jets have Darnold and he improved, plus they got Bell so..." Why do the jets get to move up because of year 2 Darnold and Bell and we don't get any improvement with year 2 Allen, and the multiple moves we've made?! Its BS that they don't acknowledge Allen's improvement. Wasn't he 200 yards per game when he got back from injury? Wasn't he the 2nd highest rated QB (well, maybe fantasy wise, but still) in the last six weeks of the season? Didn't they go 4-2 down that stretch? Aren't the 2 QBs remaining on this team after last year's debacle 6-5 in games they started and finished? Didn't the League's number 2 defense only lose 1 player and replace him with a top 10 pick? Didn't they change 9 positions on offense with guys who are, to say the least, to a man better than the guys they replaced, and therefore, making Allen better? Do they really mean to tell us that overall this team is only a couple games better than the 4-2 stretch that they put up during the last six games of the season? Really?...REALLY?! It is wrong. Until Allen proves he is a consistent passer (not a runner) in this league, our ranking won’t change (nor should it IMO). He had a strong stretch to finish the year. Allen is currently in a “what if” year. If he improves we will be much better. As much as he played better down the stretch, we also only beat a bad Jets team twice, split a bad dolphins team, beat a bad Lions team, and beat a bad Jax team. He was also at the helm for some pretty bad blow outs. Like putting up ZERO points against GB. I think our defense is a bit over rated. I’d probably put them last year around the 8-12 mark. Definitely not 2. We can’t tout Allen’s ability and our highly ranked defense with the amount of absolute blow outs we hadn’t last year. Also our RZ sucked on both sides. Something has to give here. Our O-line is upgraded with Mitch Morse (concussions) and tier two linemen. OL can be funny. That could be enough to make it a very good unit, but could also still be bottom half. John Brown isn’t scarring many people as anything other than fast right now. The have the the Bills at 7-8 wins right now. I’d peg them right around 20 with what our known commodities are and unanswered question marks. 1

These "experts" are supposed to rate the team as it stands right at this moment, not based on what they did the past 20 years. They may win another Super Bowl but right now, based on their recent injuries, suspensions, age and roster losses, they don't deserve to be rated #1. The Chiefs have an argument for #1. The Rams too. Crap, the Browns even do. Not the Pats. They did rank them as they stand right now. There is no better tandem in the NFL than Tom and Bill. I hate it, but it’s the truth. BB proved last year he can make it work when he doesn’t have the tools. Until that pairing changes or shows a major decline, you can’t move them in a preseason ranking.

Allen who had a worse completion % than Jackson can improve but Lamar can’t? i don’t know why people care at all. But until the Bills show different, they are a 6-10 football team with a qb who has a lot to improve on. Hopefully, they do. Jackson plays the position unlike anyone out there, so he gets zero respect here. I think he's got enough moxy and throws well enough on the run to be an effective QB. You've also got to factor in Roman, who's a wizard with the run game and has had a ton of success with mobile QB's. The Ravens are not going to be an easy out for anyone. 1

Sorry. Football is still an 22-man game. Having the best QB and coach matters a lot but if the other 21 players can't play, you have nothing. And it's funny to me how everyone forgets the whispers of how that tandem really win games. People need their heroes, I guess. 1

Kirby Jackson Posted September 4, 2019 Posted September 4, 2019 I figured that it would probably work best if we created a template that can just be copied and pasted each week: ”I can’t believe that (insert website) has the Bills ranked (insert Bills ranking)!! That is so disrespectful!! Why does the national media hate us?!? The Bills should be ranked (insert at least 10 spots higher). How in the hell is (insert team that you think is overrated) above the Bills?!? This is such a damn joke!! This is why no one pays attention to (insert above website again) anymore.” 1
The Frankish Reich Posted September 4, 2019 Posted September 4, 2019 https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2019-nfl-predictions/ This strikes me as the best of the various power rankings. Bills: 8-8. They add "QB rankings" this year, and our Josh fares pretty well. 8-8 amounts to a reasonable (about 30%) chance of making the playoffs!

Only Josh Rosen had a worse Adjusted Net Yards per Pass Attempt than Allen (4.37) last year. Anything under 5 in that stat is horrendous and usually results in that quarterback never getting the opportunity to start for an NFL team again. And despite records, Bills weren't any better than the Jets in 2018. Jets' final DVOA was #25. Bills were ranked #28. Hence, those rankings are fair. 1

Ignore the way they finished, 2. Discounts the moves that they made. I absolutely can't reasonably look at Allen and say, "Man, he finished strong, but forget about all that and focus on the very first starts he ever made in the NFL behind one of the worst lines in the sport with the "un-assistance" of simply terrible receivers that I wouldn't wish on Hitler." Not fair when around the league, including the Jets, it's, "...man they got so and so and look out because it means good things, yada, yada, yada..." EDIT: I honestly may be wrong, but I believe two of our Starters on the O-line from last year aren't even on NFL rosters right now. Cole Beasely makes this team better...if you are only generally aware of the nFL as a reporter you know that given our talent from last year. John Brown makes this team better for the same reason. Mitch Morris makes this team better Cody Ford makes this team better If everything and everybody else is a wash on this offense they've improved quite a bit right there. It's not just changing players and lets see...NFL PEOPLE KNOW THESE GUYS ARE AN IMPROVEMENT. Edited September 4, 2019 by dollars 2 donuts

I think Jackson is in a good system to achieve success. We will see. 2
