HOUSE Posted September 2, 2019 Posted September 2, 2019 (edited) Updated 10:44 AM; Today 10:43 AM AP New York Jets quarterback Davis Webb (5) throws a pass during the second half of a preseason NFL football game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Thursday, Aug. 29, 2019, in East Rutherford, N.J. (AP Photo/Jim McIsaac) By Ryan Talbot | rtalbot@nyup.com The Buffalo Bills open the 2019 season on the road against the New York Jets. Buffalo is obviously familiar with Jets head coach Adam Gase and offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains from their time in Miami, but there is not much film for the Bills to use in regards to the Jets offense under the duo or the Jets defense under new defensive coordinator Gregg Williams. Enter quarterback Davis Webb. Buffalo signed Webb to their practice squad on Monday and the new quarterback knows the Jets and their new system pretty well. Webb spent the entire offseason with the Jets after joining the team in 2018. Webb’s knowledge of the Jets offense as well as playing against the team’s defense daily could help Buffalo ahead of their Week 1 matchup. Webb might not know much about New York’s actual Week 1 game plan, but he should be able to provide some valuable insight as the Bills prepare to take on their AFC East foe. Adding Webb is the type of move that would make Patriots head coach Bill Belichick proud. https://www.newyorkupstate.com/buffalo-bills/2019/09/buffalo-bills-make-bill-belichick-proud-with-sneaky-practice-squad-addition.html Edited September 2, 2019 by HOUSE 3 1 1
C.Biscuit97 Posted September 2, 2019 Posted September 2, 2019 How much does this stuff really matter? Would the Pats have not beaten most teams even without signing one of their ex players? 2

He might not be as willing to cheat but remember we have a horrible punter on the roster mainly because he's left footed(a BB preference) and because he was poached from BB. Same with Conor McDermott...........the Pats reportedly wanted badly to keep him on their PS after they cut him.........Bills snapped him up and despite looking bad at every opportunity since he is still on the initial 53 man roster for a 3rd season. 2 1

They have to know the playbook and system just as well if not better than the OC/HC. 1

Can't believe he's not coaching in the NFL today! 3

Every OC, DC and HC knows them. And they study so much film, they know what formations and plays other teams use. The artistry is (1) calling a game plan that takes advantages of your strengths and the other teams weaknesses, and (2) executing the plays better than other teams. Webb might know a couple nuances and tendencies that are not immediately apparent. But the intel he gives the Bills coaches will have little effect on the outcome of the game, if any at all.

McDermott is all about best practices. He's a student of everything that works, and he incorporates everything that works into how he runs the team. Beane, too. A lot of what McD does looks like what BB does. And if the question is does a little thing like this matter, the answer, as far as McD and BB are concerned, is EVERYTHING MATTERS. 6

He wasn't in bad company competing with Mahomes and Mayfield at times.

Not to mention the offense is going to have to change ALL their terminology regarding checks less than a week before gameday. It will either force them to dummy down their gameplan or cause communication issues, which will screw up their o-line coverage and possibly route running. It will help our d much better prepare for the looks they will be seeing for the first 2 games of the season. Great signing.

whorlnut Posted September 2, 2019 Posted September 2, 2019 My thoughts? The Bills wanted Davis Webb because he has a similar skill set as our entrenched starter. He’s the perfect developmental practice squad qb. Nothing much more than that IMO. 1
Paulus Posted September 2, 2019 Posted September 2, 2019 And, the Pat's had to give a sixth for Bodine... 1
Giving' em the Business Posted September 2, 2019 Posted September 2, 2019 The Bills didn't win 31-0 after they picked up Lawyer Milloy. Oh right.... they did. Pick up wins any way you can (yes, I know we lost to the pats by the same score later that year, but a win is a win is a win)

And if the question is does a little thing like this matter, the answer, as far as McD and BB are concerned, is EVERYTHING MATTERS. Where McDermott can win me over is by proving he is much more BB than Ron Rivera. What I like about "The Process" is that it's the right mindset for a game where you have to grind week to week to win consistently. Other than Tom Brady that's maybe the other greatest distinction between the Pats and most teams that have excelled since the era of free agency........they rarely fail to show up to play..........which as the early 90's Bills proved is not an easy task. This isn't the willy-nilly NFC South where the title changes hands every year or 2 and you can always count on the top dog coming back to the pack.........there is a clear ruling team here and it just so happens to be that they sit atop the NFL as a whole............you can't get away with the mediocrity in the FO and on the sideline that they have been able to at the Panthers. To pull it off the coach ultimately has to prove to the locker room that he can beat the coach across from him and the organization needs to instill trust in the players that they will be put in position to win so that they can just focus on doing their jobs. In the first two seasons McBeane clearly haven't been living up to that standard...........but they had excuses...........now those excuses are gone and everyone still appears to be down with the grind so that's why I feel like we are finally going to see what they really have this year without the excuses. If it doesn't go well.........if McD keeps struggling with in-game decisions for instance or the KB and Peterman type personnel moves keep happening..........then we are just Carolina 2.0 and that won't win in this division. 1
Jerome007 Posted September 2, 2019 Posted September 2, 2019 Most players don't know that much,. but a QB sure does! It's not like suddenly the Bills staff will know everything and guess what the Jets O will do, but it's not like it's meaningless either. Sometimes the difference between a W or a L are just a few plays. 2
