He’s not your typical “small school guy” and i never considered him as that raw. He was a 5 star recruit who played as a true freshman at Ohio state and started for two years before he was ineligible to play there due to the failed drug test and had to transfer in order to play. Smaller school enabled him to play immediately without needing a waiver. His nfl success hasn’t been there but I think that’s mainly because he’s a one trick pony and his game didn’t evolve.

I think the raw - small school guy with huge upside Gunner was referring to was our Darryl Johnson in that quote - not Noah Spence.

Just my thought on the way it reads.

Ah yes that makes more sense after re-reading. I would rather stick with Johnson as well but if anyone gets injured in that group and Spence is still out there, I might give him a shot.

I think all of these guys were kick the tires - just in case - kind of guys.

They typically do not have PS eligibility left and are really being looked at so they have them on file just in case.

I do not see them signing any of these guys for the first couple of weeks.  They will most likely let week 1 play out and see how injuries and roster make-up work and then will revisit these types of players.

Sorry - that was about Darryl Johnson, not Noah Spence. I know the Spence story.

No worries. And yes, Spence makes sense as an "end of the phone" call if you get a guy hurt.

Laquon Treadwell has a past of being a featured player, putting up big numbers, and he has good speed to go with size; I feel always that players who haven't maximized their potential elsewhere, have a real shot at a redemptive story as a Buffalo Bill: the Jerry Hughes Effect.

If Tyron Johnson blossomed into a special player, I'd welcome it but would be surprised because of the little I've seen of him through  video clips; I'd rather take a chance on a player with 1st round talent, who hasn't panned out yet in his early career, than place hope in a less heralded WR becoming the next Robert Foster.

I loved Treadwell coming out, but by no means does he have speed. His biggest knock is inability to separate mostly due to lack of foot speed.

If tread well has all these things why can’t he get separation?

I'll look at the highlights again, maybe my eyes deceive me.

Liked Spence coming out. Interesting potential.

In addition to Josh Jones thread.

https://mobile.twitter.com/TheJoeMarino/status/1168529767399903233

Josh Jones - S, 2017 2nd .  Green Bay.  Waived with a NFI designation in late August - said to be hypothyroidism which is eminently treatable.  Gouge is he wanted out of GB, did not participate in OTAs and attempted to force a trade or release in June.

Laquon Treadwell - WR, 2016 1st.  Vikes.  In an article on how he can "change his narrative" Trapasso says he can "Know the playbook, where to line up"

Hapless sez: Kelvin Benjamin and Corey Coleman Part Deux.  Pass.

Noah Spence - DE, 2016 2nd.  Tampa Bay.  " he didn’t make enough impact as a pass rusher to overcome his struggles against the run"  Situational pass rusher for us?  But who would he bump from the roster?

Caroll Phillips - DE, UDFA, 2017 Colts.  Wreaked some havoc on us in 1st preseason game.  Started training camp on PUP after IR last season for groin injury.  This guy interests me if he's healthy.

Kentrell Brice - SS, UDFA 2016 - GB and TB (offseason only)  " allowed a passer rating of 150.1 on 29 throws into his primary coverage

Keon Hatcher - WR, UDFA 2017 - OAK.  Played his a** off in their last preseason game and was said to have made the roster.  Intriguing.

Anyone else?

Cuz Treadwell doesn't have speed.  That was the knock on him coming out: that he lacked the speed to separate from NFL-level CBs

http://www.nfl.com/draft/2016/profiles/laquon-treadwell?id=2555214

Bills connection: " Struggled to free himself from press coverage against LSU's Tre'Davious White and may have separation issues in pros against quick cornerbacks. "

Overall it looks as though Beane and his staff are staying up late, waking up early, and doing their due diligence.

But I want a punter!

NO! No to Treadwell!

That's Duke Williams spot!!

I feel the Bills have enough track record with signing high-draft-pick WR who didn't pan out for other teams, that they should look veeeeerrrrrrry carefully at this guy.  He'd be a "pass" for me (see what I did there?).  We already have a guy on the practice squad (Williams) who is physical, a bit raw on his routes, and struggles to separate from NFL CB but who seems to have a lot more "want it" to him than Treadwell has shown.

I don't think he can play as an off the ball LBer in a 4-3. They have tried him as a pass rush specialist OLB in a 3-4. He wasn't very good at that either.

I don't think he can. He was a 2016 draft pick and has featured in at least 6 games 3 times which I believe means he has three vested seasons. If a team wants to sign him they have to find a role for him on the 53. If he had been cut in June I'd have been all for bringing him in but given the play we have got from our 7th round rookie and the impressive camp he had I'd rather see him on the field getting some snaps in live bullets to try and develop him. Raw, small school guy, huge upside. To me if you are bringing Spence in it has to be at the expense of Trent Murphy and I don't see them doing that.

So Spence appears to be another high draft pick who can't  adjust to the NFL. The Bills are probably intrigued by his potential and wanted a look. I like Daryl Johnson as well and I predict good things from him. He emerged in his senior year and he is just getting started. It appears that all he needed was a chance.

We don't need anymore of that around here!

Good point.  Either PS or just in case later on.

Minnesota's offense is geared for WR's to do well.  Since he didn't, I wouldn't waste time.

I actually like Treadwell.

I do too, at least as a guy to bring in and check out. Part of the reason is because the Vikings are so good at finding/developing receivers. Breaking through the logjam they have at the top end of that position is pretty hard to do. I'm not sure he ever got a real good chance, there. And what's the harm of having a look?

Josina Anderson saying they are visiting today?  So were they in town yesterday or today?  With the open P.S. spot I am going to assume one of these players are signing.  The 10th Olineman is being cut and placed on the P.S.

Thanks for the summary + insight. Saved me a ton of time. C'mon McB - get P Matt Wile in there to at least compete with Bojo.

Spence was there yesterday per the media observing practice. But rap sheet says he’s there today. Overnighter?
