SCBills Posted August 31, 2019 Posted August 31, 2019 (edited) Definitely sounds like Singletary bursting onto the scene played a part in this. “Don’t want to put him on a pedestal..” is a pretty strong indication of trying to not put too much pressure on him as a rookie. Nextmanup Posted August 31, 2019 Posted August 31, 2019 (edited) The Conference Call is about to be played on WGR-550 for anyone interested. 12:30pm eastern time. They are going to BB after the usual break at the bottom of the hour. Edited August 31, 2019 by Nextmanup 1

Nextmanup Posted August 31, 2019 Posted August 31, 2019 (edited) Listening to BB now. Definitely sounds like the arrival of Singletary and how good he looks changed some of the organizational thinking on Shady. They looked around to find a "right fit" for Shady (trade partner) but didn't find one. BB dodging the question about whether or not Shady was offered a pay cut. No answer. Singletary has a good grasp of pass protection concepts; knows where the extra man is coming from that he has to pick up. BB not factoring in LeSean's age. OL wasn't good enough last year; put that on BB himself. Edited August 31, 2019 by Nextmanup 1

The kid went out and won the job. He has arrived. Edited August 31, 2019 by Rocket94 1

Our O line wants to do one thing: run the play as intended and let RB follow the path. Devin showed he can do that...Shady maybe not so much. 1
Nextmanup Posted August 31, 2019 Posted August 31, 2019 Just listening to BB discuss the issue of trading McCoy last year at the deadline. He definitely down played all that, saying they got a few phone calls, some were just sniffing around, didn't want to get into details but there was never a hard offer or anything. There was a lot of hot Twitter crap at that time from the usual sources saying Philly really wanted McCoy. Either that was never true or Beane is playing that down b/c he could have done a deal and decided not too. He makes it sound like there wasn't enough "there" to actually move Shady last year at the deadline. Which I find interesting.

I know, McCoy still possesses skill, but apparently the time was now to move on. Singletary is good himself and he should improve incrementally with time and experience. oldmanfan Posted August 31, 2019 Posted August 31, 2019 Bill Walsh used to say it’s better to release someone a year too early vs. a year too late. Still shocking though. 2

In that case, last year would have been the perfect time for it. At this point we’re a year too late 2

It's notable that Chris Ivory, the ultimate "churn the legs take 5 guys with him for 2-4 yds" guy got as many YPC as McCoy. 1
NoHuddleKelly12 Posted August 31, 2019 Posted August 31, 2019 This should help with all the tough decisions to make in the WR room? One less cut there?

Anyone with confusion on this topic need only look at last years starting o line and those that are back starting again.
