Pine Barrens Mafia Posted August 28, 2019 Posted August 28, 2019 For me it's a yes, I'd rather eat them than oatmeal or any boxed cereal. Think that's due to my time in the Army. Grits basically kept me alive in basic training
Gray Beard Posted August 28, 2019 Posted August 28, 2019 Grits have very little nutritional value compared to oat meal, which is a pretty low bar. I like grits, but I don’t eat them very often due to their low nutritional value. No matter which one, the temptation to load it with cream, sugar, honey, syrup, etc. is another concern.

I use hot sauce. No calorie addition, and I love hot sauce. Preferably Tapatio.
SlimShady'sSpaceForce Posted August 28, 2019 Posted August 28, 2019 I think that makes it clear enough
Johnny Hammersticks Posted August 28, 2019 Posted August 28, 2019 Yup. Butter and a splash of milk. That’s the way Dad used to make them.
ExiledInIllinois Posted August 28, 2019 Posted August 28, 2019 (edited) Too Southern. Eat real food. Why The South lost the war. If you're gonna eat something close (Southern/Midwest) to that... Eat biscuits and gravy. And isn't Basic like Boy Scout Camp... Don't they always have a plate of PB&J sandwiches available for the picky eaters, non-takers? ? If grits kept you alive, you are doing something wrong, eating something else. Corn is NOT a perfect food. You need things like beans to unlock the free niacin. Eat nothing but corn and you'll get pellagra. Corn is not a staple food. It needs other foods. Edited August 28, 2019 by ExiledInIllinois

Well Matt Damon survived on potatoes for about 6 years in that movie where he got trapped on Mars. What do you make of that, Bill Nye? 2

And you have a post graduate degree? Now... If you have corn with beans and squash. That's a another story. Corn is not a staple food. What do you make of that Frasier Crane?

Hot sauce on scrambled eggs is a breakfast staple. I’ve never heard of it on grits. Using grits as a method to eat hot sauce changes the whole equation. Hot sauce on oatmeal doesn’t sound good at all, but I’ve certainly never tried it.

When I was in basic it was July and August in Oklahoma. So hot all you could do is drink water. Really the only meal I had an appetite for was breakfast, and that breakfast was usually a couple bowls of grits. 1
Pine Barrens Mafia Posted August 28, 2019 Author Posted August 28, 2019 Just now, Doc said: Do you like them regular, creamy or al dente? A little bit al dente.

Pellagra was common in the South from a corn only diet.
teef Posted August 28, 2019 Posted August 28, 2019 i'll eat them, but there's no enjoyment from it. 1
Chandler#81 Posted August 28, 2019 Posted August 28, 2019 No. Wifee loves them. I have to add so much butter, salt & pepper just to make it TASTE. Not worth the effort. 2
RochesterRob Posted August 28, 2019 Posted August 28, 2019 No. Not a big breakfast eater in terms of volume either. A couple slices of dry toast and a tall drink such as milk then I am good until lunch.

The Plastic Cup Posted August 28, 2019 Posted August 28, 2019 Only when I’m in the south. When in Rome....
