Chances are, no second rounder is doing what he does and having a free agent the caliber of him choose buffalo as his home is unlikely imo. Get him here, franchise him and hope after 2 years he loves it. If it’s obvious after season one it isn’t going to happen, trade him The connection to Gaine is also another reason to believe the Bills were almost certainly interested. From the reports, it looks like Clowney wants to go to Philly or Seattle. Softening on Miami. Maybe he excluded the Bills from the list. Maybe. If that's the case, nothing Beane could have done and it would have been a huge mistake to expend big resources on a one year rental. Oh well. 1

He’s a player at a position of big time need who they would have on a rookie deal up to 5 years. Clowney is a player who carries a giant tag # for 2019 and no guarantee he doesn’t walk after this year - you can tag him a 2nd time but that’s a 19+ mill cap hit if you do. Eagles are an immediate contender and already have peters at LT. It’s a “Win” for both, eagles take a LT next year instead with the extra 1st. The twitter fully explains it is his personal idle speculation. Nothing to this at all.

Who was THAT?” Not saying he’s going to be a stud, or even make the team, but extremely intriguing and makes me want to see MORE. Fingers crossed! As I mentioned in another thread Johnson reminds me of our Superbowl team player Mark Pike.

I see clowney as a finisher or a guy that puts a team over the top or even just into the playoffs The flip side is hes 26. Tag plus a 6 year deal and he’s a cornerstone of the franchises refresh and costs little of their draft capital

They then plugged in some scrubs and after a rough month or so McD had them coached up and playing well When did the playing well part happen ? Werent they 6-10 and releasing cornerbacks for being torched ?

What has Houston done with Clowney and what makes you think he can take the Bills to the next level when Clowney hasn’t done it on the same team with Hopkins and Watt on it? That's less of a rebuttal and more like a new discussion point, but to answer: they won the division 2 of the last 3 years. They had the league's #1 defense in 2016 (when Watt barely played and was ineffective when he did).
GreggTX Posted August 28, 2019 Posted August 28, 2019 I believe Clowney would be the best player on our roster, at least until someone can show otherwise. As Jerry Hughes has shown, it's nut just about sacks. Sealing the edge, pressures, tackles for loss, QB hits, etc. There are many ways he can be disruptive as well as sacking the QB. This is an elite DE, but not the best. Add sack numbers and he's as good as they come. Also, we'd have to be thinking about trading Murphy or Shaq as part of this deal, IMO. Wouldn't make sense to keep all that talent at DE when we could always use more help on offense or ST.

Either this is an elaborate smokescreen or Clowney is not going to be a Buffalo Bill. Start preparing for the Jets without him.

Acquiring an elite Edge is not a bad way to start a rebuild. Something yet to be discussed is that if the report that Houston is trying to get a second are true, then BoB effed up here. They could’ve gotten much more - a first plus more - for Clowney if they had traded him while he was still allowed to sign a multi year deal. That’s a big mistake. It does for sure- but wasn’t Mario courted in FA? Miami will have to give up some assets for Clowney and I think it will come in the form of draft picks- they just don’t have much talent to barter with. Imagine if Rosen was packages lol!!! Clowney will also require a bug contract- I am thinking 4-5 years at 9-11 mil per.

I'm not saying his approach won't work, but the way he went about reshaping the roster has definitely made the FANS focus too much on cap space, in particular. You look around the league at teams with tons of good players and they constantly find ways to wiggle around the cap. I like to think Beane took the approach he took because he didn't believe the players jettisoned fit his vision and not because he believed the ultimate goal was to have the most cap space. The one aspect of his approach, which is clear, is that the draft is the way to build this particular franchise. It's the correct approach. Reality is we're very unlikely to be one of the desirable FA destinations, so your ability to draft well is a little more important than other locales. The least of my concerns regarding the team at this point in time is cap space. I also think he didn’t think the players he let go of were really that good and worth what they were being paid or wanted. He’s been pretty spot on. Dareus hasn’t don’t much at all. Sammy is on his second team since then, is oft injured, and been a pretty average receiver. Bob Woods has done well so that’s a miss. Could have used him.
