IMO, here are my biggest roster questions this week.

  1. Punter. Ryan Allen would be a Godsend. Hope Corey B is not he guy.
  2. Mitch Morris’ health. All signs indicate he’ll start Game 1 but long term . . . which I think will mean:
  3. Ryan Bates over Wyatt Teller. Perhaps too early to tell but Bates adds versatility.
  4. WR 6 (and 7?). I think they keep McKenzie and Williams, which could mean . . .
  5. RB 5. I’d like to have Yeldon but that would put pressure on choosing between:
  6. DL: Johnson and Love. Would like them both but Love might lose out; and/or
  7. Leave off a LB and/or DB.
  8. Is Clowney a serious possibility (I have doubts)

Ranking of “Would like to Keep”

  1. Duke Williams
  2. Isaiah McKenzie
  3. Darryl Johnson
  4. Ryan Bates
  5. Mike Love
  6. TJ Yeldon
  7. Pitts > Captain
  8. Cam Lewis (Likely makes PS)
  9. Dean Marlowe
  10. I’m Zen about all other battles.

DiMarco must have something on McBeane.  Duke Williams has shown he can block and would be a similar sized player with more versatility and skills, If he can play teams, ???

Mitch Morris lol

Sorry but it’s hard to take people serious that don’t even know the names of the players on the team.

I have been thinking for a while now that they may keep Love as a fifth DE and he then gets cut and placed on PS when Kroft returns from PUP.

I also think Ryan Bates absolutely makes the team, but so does Teller.

Something must be up with Ryan Allen. Pats waited to resign him this offseason, drafted his replacement anyway, cut him, and now he has been sitting. The Bills can't be the only team that are unsettled at punter, so why is he still available? Hopefully, there are some other teams with a more heated punter battle going on where we can pick up the other guy. Bojo just can't be the answer.

I think a huge part of this discussion will be STs considerations since McD takes it very seriously.  They brought Perry in for that reason, and I believe M. Alexander too, so ao  lot of the guys we like (Duke e.g.) will depend on whether McD thinks other people on the roster can man up on ST.

For the O-line, I think they have to keep 9 given Morse's situation.  I've been a Teller fan, and I think he's too good to let go, so I think he stays.

I love DL johnson, but is he too raw to be thrown into the rotation over Love?  Tough decision.

The Yeldon vs Perry decision is probably the most important ST related one.

Oh, you got me on a typo/auto correct! Well done!!  For a few minutes, I’m glad I was able to validate your life as the superior fan! Now hurry, Mom has your breakfast ready.

Good list, but I think keeping McKenzie over Darryl Johnson or Bates would be a huge mistake. McKenzie is a nice piece, but a gadget player. You can't keep a guy who basically only  runs the Jet 2-3x/game over a potential future starter at DE or OL, those are much harder to find.

Good point. I’d keep Johnson and Bates over McKenzie, but that might not be the decision point. More likely, do they keep McKenzie over Love , Pitts or Cam Lewis.  Plus, McKenzie adds value as a backup returner, Allen seems to like him, he runs WR screens well, etc.

I’m a big fan of Dean Marlowe’s game. But we just have too much talent & drafted investment (Joquan Johnson) in the secondary to keep him.

Unfortunately I think he’ll be cut, but I have no idea how he’s not on another roster in this league. To me he’s a borderline starter. Whenever he’s out there, regular season or pre-season, he’s making big plays. Hits picks etc, he’s always around the ball trying to make things happen.

That being said, we have enough talent in our defensive backfield that I’d rather keep other positions (DE, WR) heavier than safety, especially if the keep Neal, who is basically a slot corner/safety hybrid.

You are asking good questions, but tough ones, too.

It annoys and scares me, and I would just assume go to my happy place until this is all over.

However, if forced to say, I think all your points are rock solid.  Other than the fact that I really don't want to lose Teller and if we cut him, he is gone.  No one is going to let that guy sit out there.  Just because we are resplendent with line talent now, doesn't mean the rest of the league is.  I believe by next year he will be one of our starting Guards, and not a back up swing guy...no insult to Bates.

Please, if we could keep them both.

Everyone has this covered pretty well. I think from there the interesting thing will be who will be the 7 inactive players on game day. Clearly injuries factor into the equation, so I looked at it as how many by position would be active:

QB - 2

RB/FB - 4

OL - 8 (especially with the injuries in the preseason)

WR - 5

TE - 3

DL - 8 (McD loves the rotation)

LB - 5 or 6

DB - 7 or 8

Specialists - 3 (P, K, snapper)

So if that is the breakdown, who is inactive?

RB - Yeldon

OL - If they keep 9 and everyone is healthy, the starters are Dawkins, Spain, Morse, Ford, Nsekhe, subs Feliciano, Long, Bates? Teller inactive

WR - If all healthy they are dressing Brown, Beasley, Jones and Foster, Roberts is return man, so it's McKenzie and/or Williams (if they keep 6 or 7)

DL - If they keep 5 DEs, inactive Love because Johnson plays ST

LB - Joseph if they keep him

DB - Probably keeping 10, would inactive 2. Those will be tough choices, probably J. Johnson because Neal can play S, would they keep Munnerlyn just to have him inactive on game days? They are dressing the 4 starters, K. Johnson, T. Johnson, Coleman and Neal most likely.

Also possible they only dress 7 OL since they have a lot of position versatility which could open up having 1 more DB active to play ST.

This presumes that they keep 3 TEs and PUP Kroft at beginning of season.

And there are always injured players.

So there are going to be NFL-worthy players cut and some very decent players inactive on Sunday.

Are you kidding me?? A WR playing the most physically rigorous position in the NFL

All FBs do are butt heads. You need to be a special crazy person to do that full time

And you want to take a talented player like Duke and kill him lol and no their playstyles are nothing similar
