Surfmeister Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 I love to play golf and when I can't play I watch it on TV. I watch the PGA and the LPGA as well. I even watch Classic Golf with Sam Snead from the '60s. What the hell is the point of the moronic fan yelling IN THE HOLE when the golfer hits his shot? To prove he's an idiot? To upset the composure of the fan's favorite golfer? Or just to say ... Hey! Look at me ! It is so out of character for the rest of the game I would like to see these fans muzzled or thrown out. They didn't always do that. Years ago the fans had a degree of class. How about every time a QB takes a snap we yell TOUCHDOWN? How dumb would that look? Yelling IN THE HOLE !!!!! Are you for it, or against it ?
Big Cat Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Yelling IN THE HOLE !!!!! Are you for it, or against it ? 296608 The girl who you took your virginity was sure for saying in an annoyed voice, "In the Hole." [/yearly inappropriate comment]
Alaska Darin Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 It's golf. I'll care about it when they allow body checking.
MattyT Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 As someone's putt is on its way toward the hole, my uncle has a habit of yelling "ONE TIME!" I don't play golf with my uncle much any more.
Surfmeister Posted April 5, 2005 Author Posted April 5, 2005 What about 'You da' man!'? 296619 I'm down with You Da Man. It doesn't predict anything that doesn't happen. It is just a compliment to the golfer. Even if the golfer is Rosie Jones. Or I also wouldn't mind "The grass on this green is the bomb-digity !" At least I could relate to that.

He is 89 and still golfs 18 holes 4 times a week (Springville Country Club). And he watches every touney on TV. Man, that pisses him off. It has actually begun to bother me just because it irks him so bad.
SF Bills Fan Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Golf fans are an odd group. I couldn't imagine a bigger waste of money (and time) than paying for a ticket and not one person is going to get hit. I just can't get excited over golf. If they made it so there was some way that they had to scramble around the holes being chased by something (possibly a werewolf?) , then I might be interested. It's like the America's Cup. Sailing? Unless it's at the brink of Niagara Falls, I'm not watching.

I've been to the Honda Classic the last two years and watching these guys do something that I know first hand is very difficult to do consistantly is pretty sweet. Plus, they sell beer.
Surfmeister Posted April 5, 2005 Author Posted April 5, 2005 Extreme Golf Extreme Golf is just about as close to your interest as it gets. I imagine you could add a werewolf chasing you to make you go even faster. I think there is a werewolf union you could contact. A lot of people take the FUN out of golf ... you can start at the local Putt-Putt and then move on to the Par 3 course to build up to the real thing. Have fun !

Sound_n_Fury Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Or just to say ... Hey! Look at me ! 296608 Asked and answered. I'll never understand the "Look at Me!" mentality in any group setting, be it a sporting event, concert, etc. Sadly, the trend toward "reality TV," where everyone can be a star, seems to be feeding on this same trait. As an aside, I went to my first PGA tournament a few weeks ago (Bay Hill in Orlando). The gallery was very knowledgeable and respectful of the players. The only fan I saw talking too loudly while the players were on the greens tuned out to be a guy from Buffalo (go figure...he was complaining about the hockey lockout to a guy from Canada). It was cool to be a couple yards away from guys like Tiger and John Daly (he took an 11 on the 18th hole on Sunday and finished with an 80--dead last in the field ) when they were in the tee box or on the green. When Vijay Singh knocked his second shot on 18 into the lake, you could have heard the fans' gasp a mile away. Neat experience...

I think he either tries to, or they ask him to, hide it from the cameras, but if he has honors and hits his drive, he lights up a smoke while the other guy is driving.

Surfmeister Posted April 5, 2005 Author Posted April 5, 2005 When Vijay Singh knocked his second shot on 18 into the lake, you could have heard the fans' gasp a mile away. I gained more respect for Vijay for trying to make that shot to the green over the water with that wind the way it was. If he would have made it .. it would have been a dagger through the heart for the eventual winner. I like it when the players try the difficult shots instead of playing it so safe. And by difficult I mean the ones I don't even know how to make! A good TV show is the ESPN Top Ten shots made by Tiger as picked by the fans. The fans really picked the trick shots he pulled out of his bag. More par to ya ~

Sound_n_Fury Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 I gained more respect for Vijay for trying to make that shot to the green over the water with that wind the way it was. 296758 I was about 20 yards away when Vijay took the shot and it sounded like he hit it fat. He had Perry on the ropes, but his shot selection was just way too aggressive... there's no way he would have lost had he hit it to the middle of the green (Perry was cooked after missing his par on 17). I saw an interview with Vijay afterward and he said he aimed at the flag because "that's what Arnie would have done," and he really wanted to win Bay Hill badly after finishing second twice. The guy who was really pulling trick shots out of his a$$ was Sergio Garcia. After he hit his drive on par 5 16th into the 18th hole tee area (I have no idea how he did that...it's about 75 yards from the 16th fairway!), he hit a blind second shot OVER the 17th hole grandstand and landed it in a spot about 10 feet in front of the lake guarding 17. He hit back across to 16 on his third stroke and ended up parring the hole. I've never seen anything like it.
todd Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Yelling IN THE HOLE !!!!! Are you for it, or against it ? 296608 I love golf. Masters week is one of the best sports weeks of the year, IMHO. It is for me, at least. The tradition is amazing. Seeing Jack & Arnie play is wonderful. Anyway, I hate the dumbass IN THE HOLE!!!! thing. I also hate YOU THE MAN! Ok, maybe they were fine for one year, but year after year and tournament after tournament? Are these people morons?
