Boca BIlls Posted September 1, 2019 Posted September 1, 2019 And preseason messes with your heads again.
ALF Posted September 1, 2019 Posted September 1, 2019 Well the good news is the Bills have enough TE's to take his place.
JohninMinn. Posted September 1, 2019 Posted September 1, 2019 You can't coach size. Best red zone target. We already have two other Fosters. Brown and Mckenzie. Get Duke back. 1

I will say that he looked a little slow in preseason game #4, but I chalked that up to him being out there blocking for almost the entire game. He did not look slow in games one thru three. But the line that "he can't get separation" is bogus. He's a talented route runner that can reel in passes thrown into tight coverage, and it's his sheer strength that gives him that edge. The only other WR with a similar catch radius, IMO, is Brown. And, I don't believe we had another WR who could highpoint as well as he could. I don't think that is an attribute that should be ignored-- neither his ability to block. I believe we will regret not signing him. I hope he clears waivers, and makes the PS, but I doubt he will. He did look slow, he looked slow in ALL the preseason games he played and couldn't create separation from players who aren't on NFL rosters today. I don't know how you can't see it, it right there in front of your face. There's a bunch of you getting hung up on 2 jump ball TDs and blocking, but don't see anything else. As is he will not be able to get into NFL games when the ball is in between the 20s, he's too damn slow. Beane isn't keeping a guy on the 53 who averaged less than 9 yards a catch against the #8, #9 #10 CBs , just to catch a couple jump balls this year. He had his chances and hasn't done enough against the lower competition he played. Here's a fact some of you are having a hard time acknowledging, he's got TE measurables(Besides weight) trying to play WR, he looked way too slow in every preseason game he was in to play WR. When that happens you don't deserve a spot on the team, there's a reason he was playing in the CFL & it hasn't only been him trying to get his personal life in order keeping him there. 1

Why? Does Zay love the lord more than Duke? Because that's apparently a very important quality to Beane? That and if you played for the Carolina Panthers. A completely asinine move by the Bills. This makes no sense at all. One is a proven player in the NFL and one hasn't made an NFL roster since first trying out back in 2016, Duke is already 26 years old, but runs like he's 56 years old. The number 1 WR in the CFL playing against who at CB, guys who couldn't sniff an NFL roster?? Duke averaged less than 9 yards a catch against CBs that aren't on NFL rosters today. When you finally get your chance and it's against lower talent, you better dominate or you're not going to make the 53 man roster. Duke looks like he's dragging a tire behind him when he runs. He probably would've been a good WR in the 80s & 90s though, but with the speed of the game today you better be able to run or be shifty and run really good routes.

Get Duke back. You can't teach speed either...or in this case lack of speed. My grandma can run faster than Duke. Here's his draft profile, the cliff notes are... he lacks speed, acceleration, stiff hips(Not what you want your WR to have), "Restricted, semi-strider off snap and slow into routes, won't slip many tackles, very little acceleration for separation out of breaks. And the biggest thing I've been saying..... Can't shake free underneath and will have to live off contested catches. Not much has changed since then, he's still pretty much the same player. WEAKNESSES Consistent discipline issues at Auburn. Suspended for Outback Bowl after 2014 season, missed practices for "personal reasons" this August and was kicked off of the team in October admitting he "made mistake after mistake" which lead to his dismissal. Stiff hips and below average athlete. Restricted, semi-strider off snap and slow into routes. Wont slip many tackles in the open field after the catch. Despite his size, blocking not a priority for him. Small hands for his size. Can't shake free underneath and will have to live off of contested catches. Very little acceleration for separation out of breaks. Could be forced into slot role only. Looked like he was going through the motions in 2015 before his dismissal. Scouts dont trust his personal or football character at all. 1

DCofNC Posted September 1, 2019 Posted September 1, 2019 I hear you on the height obsession here, there is a certain point to it, but without great athleticism to go with it, its not a huge deal. A lot of smaller, more athletic guys can go up and get a ball, so a few inches difference isn't the end all.

Yes, he was an alternate. But it's revisionist history to pretend that even calling an alternate for the Pro Bowl for him in 2015 was anything other than outlandish. I know our bet. 7 hours ago, Foxx said: no worries. when he loses his bet with me on Allen making the Pro Bowl, he will no longer be able to jinx the Bills for a year by making any prediction of any sort and then maybe we will be able to move ahead. I'm sad for you that when Allen makes the Pro Bowl (1st selection) that you won't be able to just enjoy it.

Dude you thought Duke should have a place on the team, but didn't think Zay was a lock lol. If Duke is ever able to disconnect the 100 pound weight he's dragging behind him he might have a chance. He's a 1980s-1990s type WR......the problem with that is it's 2019 and the game has totally changed.

Which means that no team claimed him and this hubbub about the cut will mean nothing. A few fades in the back of the EZ is what he brings to the table at this point. Maybe in 92 he'd have been a valuable, roster worthy player. 2019. Not so much. But the Duke dream will very likely be alive and well when he clears waivers and is available for call up at any time. He doesn't have nearly the value everyone talked themselves into. A few plays a year...maybe. 1
