Update:

Apparently it's actually the 2nd-highest gtd figure:

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2019/08/20/inside-the-jaylon-smith-deal/

"The new-money average of $12.75 million puts Smith at No. 5 among all inside linebackers, but the total guarantee of $35.4 million puts him at No. 2, only behind Jets linebacker C.J. Mosley."

Haha, Jerry's rubbing it in Zeke's face. Lololololol.

Actually, this deal doesn't affect Zeke anywhere near as much as it does Byron Jones.

Zeke has his option year picked up, so he's on the payroll for 2020 at $9.1M.  Jones, on the other hand, is a UFA at the start of the 2020 league year.

That said, they should have enough cap room to sign Jones, Zeke, Dak, and Cooper, plus their 2020 draft class. They won't be able to do much in FA, but they may not have to if they can get all of the above done.

Hes one of the best in the NFL. Makes sense to me. Also couldn't have happened to a more classier guy. Huge notre dame fan, and Jaylon was prob one of my fav players over last 30 years. Awesome story on his battle back. Put in work to get back to where he was and he is getting rewarded for that. Some other guys in NFL should take some notes..

All true, but it's still a direct salvo across Zeke's bow, particularly in light of Jerruh's comments about how Jalen has never missed a practice, never said "boo"...

Great player, but that's a massive contract to a kid who's played 2 seasons and averaging 101 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and 3 pbu's a year. Congrats to the young man tho

That's an ILB that's worth the money... Fast, rangey, can cover... Still kinda shocking that he's getting less than Mosley.

Take that number and increase it by 20% and you'll have Tre's $ in a couple years here.

People should be taking note on how this and future ILB deals will impact Edmunds... We have some time, but he comes up the same year as Allen if we pick up their 5th year options, and Ford as well (no 5th year so he'll be the same year as those two)... that's gonna be a MASSIVE year for paying people, and we need to pay Milano, Dawkins, and Tre white too.

This is why it's VERY smart the Bills have not forked out massive amounts of cash in FA... Sure they;ve signed guys, but to short term deals they can get out of.

I didn't bother to do some research myself, and I am not able to evaluate players, but Cowboys fans almost unanimously think that its great deal for Cowboys and that Smith gave them discount since he is team first player and is happy for the opportunity he got.

I am hoping at the end of this season, we all will be thinking an extension like this plus 20% will be a bargain for Tre.

NFL executive Brian Rolapp has an old photo on the wall of his office, hanging right in his line of sight. It shows a group of prep-school football fans so captivated by a game that they ignore a building engulfed in flames behind them.

“Without exaggeration, it sits in a place where I look at it every day,” said Rolapp, the chief media and business officer for the National Football League.
