On Defense I just have Buffalo on a different level that the Jets. Aside from giving Buffalo the edge defensively, I also think Gase was a poor hire and a bad head coach, where as I see McDermott as above average and has the team on the right trajectory. I’m curious as to why you would give Buffalo the edge defensively? Aside from being a Bills fan. They have some injuries but they have studs at every level. Adams, Mosely, and the Williams’ might be better than anyone we have. As for Gase, he has been hired as a head coach now twice because he worked with Peyton Manning. Simple case of QB making the coach look good. How sure are you that Darnold isn’t good? 10 hours ago, BigDingus said: Only 5? I'd put about 15-20 ahead of us easily. Homers (not using the term as an insult) will usually get themselves hyped like this the closer we get to regular season kicking off, typically making progressively more & more grandiose statements, predictions and expectations. Year after year, reality again sets in, and the tidal wave of 10-12 win season predictions begin to look ridiculous. Until they actually do something in meaningful game conditions, I'm going off of what I saw them do last year combined with moderate expectations for each of the new additions to the team. If the new players can stay on the field, they will at least bump the team up enough to help us get to a respectable 8-8 season. 9-7 would be a huge success, playoffs or not. But I think 8-8 would show solid improvement, probably limited by a young QB. Yes, I saw the numerous playoff predictions before last season. But if you bring it up now, they will say it was only a handful of crazy people. 1 1

Yes, I saw the numerous playoff predictions before last season. But if you bring it up now, they will say it was only a handful of crazy people. Mosley isn’t very good in coverage and they lost Avery Williamson. Brandon Copeland just got suspended 4 games. Their CBs aren’t as good or as deep. Adams is fine, But they don’t have a tandem like Hyde and Poyer who are both in their primes and familiar with each other and the scheme. I see no holes on Buffalo’s Defense and think Edmunds will take the step towards being elite for years to come. They are also without Herndon for the first 4 weeks which will hurt them. The only place I give them a slight edge is at WR, but not by a whole lot, the Bills DBs shouldnt have much issue shutting them down. Obviously Bell is an elite back, but their OL is a big question mark, where Buffalo has good depth at RB, keeping fresh legs behind a bolstered OL. The head coach issue is a pretty big deal. Darnold could be pretty good... but that won’t negate bad coaching enough to mean anything unless he is out of this world. Even then many times has a great QB like Phillip Rivers been on the outside looking in at the post season, despite being elite? Or above average QBs like Stafford? And who’s to say this Josh Allen kid doesn’t turn out to be some special??? The odds are the same for each QB. Plus new coach, new scheme, lots of new faces combined with all the injuries and suspensions is hardly a recipe for success. While Buffalo does have a good amount of new players, it’s year 3 of “the process” and players who have been around the last year or two should be much more comfortable schematically, and cut down on mental errors like missed assignments and stupid penalties. My main concern for Buffalo right now is both phases of the kicking game. We don’t want to deal with what Chicago did last season. Edited August 22, 2019 by Dr.Mantis_Toboggan

Calmer than you are dude. huh oh, not the first time you have been placed on ignore for darn good reason.... why did i let you out of that prison... Edited August 22, 2019 by row_33

Go for it......the Patriots, Steelers and Browns are not on my list Arizona Cardinals Atlanta Falcons Baltimore Ravens Carolina Panthers Chicago Bears Cincinnati Bengals Cleveland Browns Dallas Cowboys Denver Broncos Detroit Lions Green Bay Packers Houston Texans Indianapolis Colts Jacksonville Jaguars Kansas City Chiefs Los Angeles Chargers Los Angeles Rams Miami Dolphins Minnesota Vikings New England Patriots New Orleans Saints New York Giants New York Jets Oakland Raiders Philadelphia Eagles Pittsburgh Steelers San Francisco 49ers Seattle Seahawks Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tennessee Titans Washington Redskins I love your optimism but I hate getting my Hope's up too high only to be crushed when the wheels fall off! I feel like we are a top 10 team but we'll see pretty quickly. If we aren't 4-1 or 5-1 then it's not as good as we hope. Our early schedule has some very winnable games. There's no bigger optimist on the planet than me, but when it comes to my Bills, the last 7 or so years I have defaulted to show me. I see that they play 13 teams this year that range from the best to the worst, but my Bills could lose to all of them on any given Sunday and even every Sunday. Especially if Josh turns out to play like Jay Cutler. I hope they don't and they get 10 wins. When it comes to naming 5 better teams, it could be the 13 we play. Show me!! 1
LSHMEAB Posted August 23, 2019 Posted August 23, 2019 I'm not saying the Jets are better; I think we're comparable. I will say that the Gase mocking is a bit foolish. The guy had a "decent" record in Miami with Ryan Tannehill, Matt Moore, and Jay Cutler at QB. If Darnold is really good, all the offseason shenanigans and crazy eyes won't really matter.

Mosley is a two down linebacker. This is true in the context of the NFLs passing league. I cannot imagine a scenario where their defense is in the same tier as ours, the second DVOA defense in the league. Their O-Line is a mess. They brought in a retired Center to start for them. By any measure, they were as bad if not worse than the Bills last year. This year, we have brought a number of vets, including one of the top Centers in the league. QB and WR are a wash. Bell is an amazing back, but hasn't played in a full year, is on the verge of being out of his prime, and playing behind a substantially worse OL than he had at PItt. I don't care how good Bell is, with that line, he will not be the same player. I cant wait to bet the Bills +3. Edit: I guess it is 1.5 now. Jets are scrappy and always totally steal a few wins each year that were entirely undeserved if given a chance....

I think that's a bit of an exaggeration. Any given NFL team may have one of those types of wins each year, but it basically comes down to talent and coaching. I think there's an argument that the Bills and Jets have similar overall talent, but in my opinion the Bills' coaching staff is significantly better.

That's it. But notice their caveats. I think those are the elite but they are a bad break from being bad teams. I like our chances if we had to turn to Barkley. No not that we'll win the SB but I still think we can be competitive. I'm not saying we're as good as them or better than 2/3 of the league. I just think if we stay healthy we have just as good a shot as any team to win the WHOLE THING. Obviously....I'm expecting several guys on this team to make huge leaps this season in order for me to be in this place of optimism. Let's freaking go!!!!!!!!!! 1 down. 2

Like if I were to say name one player better than Pat Mahomes last year. It's perfectly fine. The contention is Mahomes was the best player, Bills are top 5. ? Whatever. We're not top 5. Saints, Patriots, Rams, Chiefs, Eagles.. and more. Although I like us in the AFC seeding. NFC has looked a lot deeper. Also OP.. we know all the teams in the NFL. No 32 teams list necessary pls. GreggTX Posted August 25, 2019 Posted August 25, 2019 (edited) Go look at the power rankings at NFL.com. They list more than 20 teams better than us. Let's just hope we can improve this season and finally become relevant again. Edited August 25, 2019 by GreggTX
