HOUSE Posted August 20, 2019 Posted August 20, 2019 (edited) MIAMI DOLPHINS Is a former Bills linebacker on the roster bubble in Miami? It appears that may be the case for Kiko Alonso. Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald noted that Alonso’s roster spot is not safe with roster cuts upcoming. Here is what Jackson said in regards to Alonso. Sam Eguavoen’s emergence and Jerome Baker’s evolution — and the fact Miami is expected to play three linebackers less than half the time — have left Kiko Alonso and Raekwon McMillan in a tenuous position. McMillan obviously is not going to be released, but his playing time likely will be impacted. Releasing Alonso would carry $8.2 million in dead money and just a $25,000 cap savings but would save Miami $4 million in cash, per overthecap.com. https://www.newyorkupstate.com/buffalo-bills/2019/08/new-england-patriots-releasing-p-ex-bills-current-miami-dolphins-lb-on-bubble-afc-east-roundup.html Edited August 20, 2019 by HOUSE 1
YoloinOhio Posted August 20, 2019 Posted August 20, 2019 He will continue his afc east tour to the Jets if cut. Gregg loves dirty players and needs a LB. 14 2

CLTbills Posted August 20, 2019 Posted August 20, 2019 I don't understand the point of cutting him. Would I love to see him leave the division so he can't take shots at our franchise QB? Absolutely. But I don't understand why they would do it. It saves them literally nothing against the cap.

The team may want to start cutting the higher salaries and Kiko has been oft injures (per what I read) https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/barry-jackson/article234142607.html Among the positions where established Dolphins veterans are at risk: ▪ Receiver: Among Allen Hurns, Brice Butler and Isaiah Ford, there’s a decent chance one could stick as a sixth receiver. But it’s difficult to fathom more than one making the 53-man roster, barring injuries Releasing Alonso would carry $8.2 million in dead money and just a $25,000 cap savings but would save Miami $4 million in cash, per overthecap.com. But if Miami can trade Alonso, there would be $1.3 million in dead money and $7 million in cap savings. Finding a trade partner might be difficult, though, because the team acquiring him would be responsible for the entire $6.5 million base salary, including the $2.5 million guaranteed in March. Alonso and McMillan remained out Monday with undisclosed injuries.
Captain Murica Posted August 20, 2019 Posted August 20, 2019 Hopefully he goes to the jets so he can still play against his dad twice a year 1 10 1

If you know you're going to suck, and you're going to be re-building, take the cap hit in a year you're already going to suck anyway. That seemed to be the Brandon Beane method and it has worked out ok for us. 1
SlimShady'sSpaceForce Posted August 20, 2019 Posted August 20, 2019 $7 million in cap savings ... ?? It looks as if they have $21 Mil plus change in cap space Just now, CLTbills said: I guess it makes sense... Joking aside I think you're right that Kiko is going to be targeted because of their loss of Avery Williamson... so to me this is a slam dunk for them to got out and get a guy with ILB & MLB experience who knows the division and plays with edge. Also Gase connection shouldn't be discounted... 14 minutes ago, YoloinOhio said: Especially with Gase there looks like I'm behind your on the curve here! Edited August 20, 2019 by MR8
JaCrispy Posted August 20, 2019 Posted August 20, 2019 Good! I want him out of the AFC east because I feel he would stop at nothing to try to concuss Josh Allen, for embarrassing him last season. 1
H2o Posted August 20, 2019 Posted August 20, 2019 (edited) A good friend of mine is a Dolphins fan here at work. He hates Alonso. He says it was one of the biggest wastes of money his team made in recent years. He said aside from the fact he's a dirty player who does dumb things on the field, he is always out of position or a step late getting somewhere. His speed allows him to make tackles, but he should have made them 4 or 5 yards sooner if he would have been in the place he was supposed to be. Sounds like "The Legend of Kiko Alonso" was always just a myth. Edited August 20, 2019 by H2o 1
