It recently dawned on me that some of my favorite movies are heavily narrated.

The ones that came to mind were:

Shawshank Redemption

Stand By Me

Goodfellas

What other heavily narrated movies do you think were good?

Apocalypse Now! Martin Sheen's haunted voice!

The Usual Suspects.

Carlito's Way.

But Goodfellas is far and away the best use of voiceover narration.  Scorcese is an absolute master of that technique (e.g., Casino and Taxi Driver.)

How could I forget The Usual Suspects? :wallbash:

Because the narration is so seamlessly weaved in to the plot, switching between the interrogation and action, that it barely feels like narration.

It was brilliantly done.  But it's still no Goodfellas, which was pure voiceover narration that seamlessly and effortlessly blends with the visuals.  It's still a crime Goodfellas didn't get Best Picture over "Dances With White Guilt."

That reminds me Casino had heavy narration too I think.

The animal cruelty for cute movies (especially Milo and Otis) is sad. I think people are becoming more aware and it won’t be tolerated so much in the future

That certainly was criminal.  I'll also add that Gump beating out Shawshank was utterly ridiculous.

apocalypse now

Saw the 40th anniversary "Final Cut" last week in Imax.  Still a great movie, but the French plantation scene serves no purpose.
