Despite the above, men and women perform about the same on standardized IQ tests.  However, there is a lot of research out there that men do have a wider distribution of intellectual ability.  There are more male geniuses and idiots.

I wouldn’t say we were arguing.  He used a 1932 study of IQ in Scotland to back up his point which was kind of silly.  More modern research suggests men as a group may be higher at the smart and dumb extremes of the curve.  The question is why and whether it would have to do with environment and not some inherent difference. I woulda still say that when one states women have to know what they’re getting into sounds misogynistic, but he clarified that a bit.  So we were just discussing.

 

Regardless of anything else I think Gase is a jerk for walking out so quick right after his child is born.

They're the closest we have to an overall g and people will show strengths and weaknesses within the subcategories of those tests.  The most reputable standardized cognitive tests (WJ, WAIS) have a high degree of validity and reliability.  What it can't measure is the entire complexity of the human thought process.
