As Disney continues to rule the box office this year(again), we now reach the month of August to conclude the Summer Season of movies. This is the last hurrah for studios to squeeze the last bit of box office megabucks out of everyone, before school is back in session and football is back in season.

Unlike July, August has a large slate of nationwide releases, making it more difficult for the lesser known films to stand out. There is a wide variety of films to satisfy most moviegoers, so very few can complain that there is nothing for them to see.

Universal brings us, "Hobbs & Shaw". Lawman Luke Hobbs and outcast Deckard Shaw form an unlikely alliance when a cyber-genetically enhanced villain threatens the future of humanity. Starring Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Vanessa Kirby & Helen Mirren.

From Lionsgate comes, "Scary Stories To Tell In the Dark". It's 1968 in America. Change is blowing in the wind...but seemingly far removed from the unrest in the cities is the small town of Mill Valley where for generations, the shadow of the Bellows family has loomed large. It is in their mansion on the edge of town that Sarah, a young girl with horrible secrets, turned her tortured life into a series of scary stories, written in a book that has transcended time-stories that have a way of becoming all too real for a group of teenagers who discover Sarah's terrifying tome. Starring Zoe Margaret Colletti, Michael Garza, Gabriel Rush & Dean Norris.

In "Good Boys",  Three sixth grade boys ditch school and embark on an epic journey while carrying accidentally stolen drugs, being hunted by teenage girls, and trying to make their way home in time for a long-awaited party. Starring Jacob Tremblay, Molly Gordon, Will Forte & Lina Renna.

In "The Kitchen", The wives of New York gangsters in Hell's Kitchen in the 1970s continue to operate their husbands' rackets after they're locked up in prison. Starring Elisabeth Moss, Melissa McCarthy, Domhnall Gleeson & Tiffany Haddish.

In "Angel Has Fallen", Secret Service Agent Mike Banning is framed for the attempted assassination of the President and must evade his own agency and the FBI as he tries to uncover the real threat. Starring Gerard Butler, Morgan Freeman, Piper Perabo, Lance Reddick, Jada Pinkett Smith & Nick Nolte.

In "Where'd You Go, Bernadete?" A loving mom becomes compelled to reconnect with her creative passions after years of sacrificing herself for her family. Starring Cate Blanchett, Judy Greer, Kristen Wiig & Billy Crudup.

In "Ready or Not", A bride's wedding night takes a sinister turn when her eccentric new in-laws force her to take part in a terrifying game. Starring Samara Weaving, Adam Brody, Mark O'Brien, Henry Czerny & Andie MacDowell.

In "The Art of Racing in the Rain", Through his bond with his owner, aspiring Formula One race car driver Denny, golden retriever Enzo learns that the techniques needed on the racetrack can also be used to successfully navigate the journey of life. Starring Milo Ventemiglia, Amanda Seyfried, Martin Donovan, Gary Cole, Kathy Baker & Kevin Costner.

In "The Angry Birds Movie 2", The flightless birds and scheming green pigs take their beef to the next level. Starring the voices of Awkwafina, Dave Cameron, Bill Hader & Danny McBride.

In "Dora and The Lost City of Gold", Dora, a teenage explorer, leads her friends on an adventure to save her parents and solve the mystery behind a lost city of gold. Starring Isabela Moner, Q'orianka Kilcher, Benicio del Toro, Eva Longoria, Danny Trejo & Michael Pena.

Sounds like a more idiotic Deep Blue Sea, which I didn't think was possible.

But...why?  Why make this movie?  Why is this a series?  Who the ***** is watching these movies, and what the hell is wrong with them?

That's why they are being released at the end of August.

I thought you would have commented about "1917" before this post.

I wouldn't even bother.  All Quiet on the Western Front, by the guy who directed Jarhead?  Best thing I can say about it is it's not a Roland Emmerich film.

If I had young kids or grandkids, I'd be going to see Dora. When we saw the preview in the show I leaned over to hubby and whispered, "That is a license to print money." He agreed.

I'm out for this month.  I'm not so sure there's even a movie on this list that I would bother to watch once they hit free tv.

Hobbs and Shaw:  Boring, predictable formula.   I'm not sure if the Fast and Furious franchise wants to be a lesser Mission Impossible or a better Expendables.

I haven't seen any movies from the three series you mentioned (except the 1st MI).  But isn't the Fast and Furious on a completely different plane at this point?  There's been, what, like 85 of those movies at this point?  The Saw series is the only one I can think of that rapid fire released movie after movie on a yearly basis.  I guess you could say Marvel did that at an even higher rate, but those are mostly free-standing movies.  I'm guessing that's not the case here.

Nope.  They turned F&F from street racing outlaws to an impossible missions force that goes all over the planet now, taking on drug cartels, weapon traffickers, and terrorists.

The Expendables had a good idea bringing back actors from the 80s and 90s but the stories were first pedestrian, then weird.  (Schwarzenegger's character is revealed to not only be gay...but in a relationship with Jet Li's character)

See, you're missing out.  Hahaha.
