Another Fan Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 I wonder if that’s a result of the Me Too movement
teef Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 it should rank right up there with the new ghostbusters. 2 1
shrader Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 I was listening to a radio conversation about this where they said she is a "British actor who is african american". Ummm yeah, that's not how that works. I guess dual citizenship would make that possible. I don't know.
Blokestradamus Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 I'm moderately intrigued how they'll write the script considering that Bond has always been seen as something of a womaniser and part-time misogynist. 1

The whole thing isn't even original within the Daniel Craig movies. Bond is out of action and has to get pulled back in? They did exactly that in Skyfall. This whole version just has him replaced within the agency. The funniest part about any uproar about this casting is that I'm willing to bet that one of two scenarios happen. Either one, she's killed incredibly early, which is the spark for his return. Or two, she's the villain.

That's fine, but that's exactly what they're hoping for, headline outrage. Bond is retired and someone else has been given his title. Then he gets drawn back in. There is no story here at all. It's not the controversial recasting that some are hoping for.

LeviF Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 Shrader is correct, they're simply passing on the agent code. Daniel Craig is still James Bond. This must be the last installment in Daniel Craig's run. There'll be another reboot in 5-10 years a la Casino Royale.

It is his last one, there was already outrage over people talking about Idris Elba taking over the role of 007 and that Bond can't be black. (Trevor Noah had a good bit in his standup act about this and how after thinking about it, they may be right that it would be tough for a black spy to work in Northern areas of Europe...)
WhoTom Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 I couldn't care less whether a spy character is a man or a woman, but if I were the legendary James Bond, I'd be pissed that they didn't retire my number.

dpberr Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 Could be a clunker with the director changes, rewrites right before filming and the added audience expectations. It'll be interesting to see how they give gravitas to Rami Malek as the film's villain. The McQuarrie/Cruise M:I series gets better with every installment with the set pieces, story depth and the acting.
